london hotel recommendations please for
 

Staying in london in october for 8 nights and would like to find a hotel "in the middle of things". Wife has mobility issues so elevator is a must. Nothing too "sterile" please. And after your recommendation...on which website do you prefer to book?<BR>Many thanks.

Another great website for hotels in London is:<BR>www.smoothhound.com<BR>Discount rates and you can see photographs of the property before you make a decision. The site also breaks down the selections by neighborhood.

The hotels featured in the Chicago Trib and later in the LA Times article are at your price point. Unfortunately, as it is pointed out in the article, they for the most part, do NOT have elevators.

As others already mentioned that article recently printed is an excellent source of information for hotels in your price range. I read it carefully and do recall at least one place that has an elevator and is "in the middle of things". I don't know where my earlier reply to this thread has gone.... But the gist of it was that you might be able to find special rates at Grange and/or Raddison Edwardian Hotels that would be within your price range and also have elevators. Both groups have their own webistes, and I've seen good rates on londontown.com and smoothhound.com, as well as some other London booking sites.

Others should note that most of the hotels discussed in this article do NOT have air conditioning.<BR>

I stayed at the Russell Hotel in the Bloomsbury area two weeks for 102 pounds. I found the deal directly on their website. The hotel is a beautiful old hotel and is centrally located. The British Museum is just down the road and the tube stop is right near the hotel. The room wasn't huge, but clean and suitable for my needs.

We stayed at the Chelsea Green for five nights over two weekends. This place should be sold out every night, for the value alone. It is in a quiet neighborhood of Chelsea (really So Ken), less than five minutes walk from the So Ken tube. There are outstanding restaurants everywhere within a 10-15 minute walk. It is a 4****, with A/C and lift. We had a suite reserved for 150 GBP per night(which would have been a good deal), but then found the same room on laterooms.com for 110, a week before we left. They honored the rate! It is practically new inside, a beautiful conservatory for breakfast, free paper in the morning, and the suite was very nice sized for two. We arrived on my wife's birthday, and at my request, they had balloons strung up and flowers on the bed. Value like this in London is nearly impossible to find. Can't recommend it enough. <BR>

Sightseer, thanks for the information about the Russel House -- it sounds wonderful.<BR><BR>I've been staying at the Strand Palace -- you can't get more centrally located and the price is under $150. It's big but not sterile, and you walk right out onto the Strand. There are elevators and all the conveniences of a big hotel. <BR><BR>The front entrance has about seven steps up to the lobby, but I believe the side entrance is level -- best to check with them to be sure.
