london hotel or apartment
I am taking my daughters to London at the end of March. Given it is their first time (they are 10 and 12) I assume we will focus on the tourist activities. I would appreciate recommendations on where to stay (both area and hotels). Also, I would consider an apartment . Is there a good website to check?
Any help appreciated. Nikki5 |
Hi Nikki; my daughters are around that age too. They love London.
Without knowing how much you want to spend, it's hard to recommend. If money is no object, I would say Beaufort House in Beaufort Gardens, or the new apartments at the Capital Hotel, both in Knightsbridge. There are lots of posts here about London apartments; you can search for them. My kids liked; The Tower Natural History Museum Science Museum British Museum (the mummies!) The Royal Mews London Eye, and the Acquarium next to that. Wandering around Portobello Road Market. We like to stay in the Knightsbridge area, but South Kensington, Mayfair, Chelsea are good too. |
As Tulips says, There are LOTS of threads on here w/ recommendations for flats.
but here are a few at least to get you started: E&E Apartments http://eandeapartments.co.uk/ Inexpensive flats in Pimlico and Victoria. Near the Thames, Tate Britain, Chelsea and Victoria Station. Hamlet (UK) Ltd. www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~hamlet_uk/ 1 and 2 bedroom flats in St Katherine’s Dock next to the Tower of London. Scala House www.scala-house.co.uk 2-bedroom flats near Tottenham Court Rd, Oxford Street and the British Museum Price Apartments www.priceapts.co.uk flats throughout London. Chelsea Cloisters www.chelsea-cloisters.co.uk Full service flats not far from Harrods, the S Kens. tube station and the V&A/Science/Natural History museums |
Hi Nikki,
I can recommande you a website where you will see a lot of hotel or appartment in London and you can choose one, it is www.studios92.com, I think you will find something suitable for you and your daughters. But I think that you should find search something in area 1 because the tube is quite expensive!!! So I hope you will find something!!! Bye |
Nikki,
We have stayed at the Somerset Queens Gate apartments which were excellent. They are right next to the natural history museum and around the corner from the science museum, V&A and Kensington gardens. Highly recommended. A good website to look for apartments is www.londonservicedapartments.com.uk |
I am taking my grandsons 13 and 9 at the same time. I have been to London many times and agree that the S. Kensington, Knightsbridge and Chelsea areas are great. I would recommend londonconnection.com for flats. It may be too late but we have been pleased.
If you do go to the touristy but fun for the kids wax museum, be sure to go to Regents Park for an outdoor contrast. Hampstead Heath is also wonderful for full views of London, less touristy, more like a village. It is lovely!!! |
Good advice already given. London is quite large and spread out so there are several areas, as already mentioned that are convenient. Being near the tube is important. Get a family pass for the tube, it's the best buy in London (London is quite expensive).
We did a hop on/off tour our first day there. This is included fast track entry to the tower and a boat ride (both were worthwhile). The kids also may like to see a show. You can get discounted tickets at the TKTS line. If they like theater, you can also tour the Globe Theater. We stayed in the So. Kensington area and enjoyed it. It's peaceful, somewhat residential, with several pubs and restaurants. We (family of 4) had inter-connected rooms at the Cranley Gardens hotel. The rooms were small, and the bathrooms tiny, but the plus was we did have the 2 rooms. It was in a quiet location near 2 tube stops, Harrods, V&A, and the science museum. The breakfast was nothing special there. Also check tripadvisor for more hotel info. I don't know your budget but you can also try bidding on 2 rooms on Priceline. Check biddingfortravel.com for more info on that. |
Also meant to mention, we used justairports.com for round trip to/from the airport and hotel. We paid cash (cheaper than credit card). It was very reasonable and the service was great. We had an 'estate' vehicle, which was a minivan, that had plenty of room for the 4 of us and out luggage.
