London hotel options-- between two picks
 

Currently we (my husband and I, early 30's newlyweds, no children) are booked at Ibis London Euston St Pancras but I was looking at rates and such and saw Ibis London Blackfriars is roughly the same price- but closer to the London Eye and those attractions. Would you rather be by the British Museum area or the London Eye area? I'm not familiar enough with either area to understand the pro's and con's of both sections. Thank you!

Are those your only two choices? The Euston one is just west of Euston Station and Blackfriars is near Southwark tube station.

I wouldn't pick based on proximity to either the British Museum or the Eye since you can get anywhere from anywhere by public transport. But for transport in general the Euston property is on or near 5 tube lines (and both legs of the Northern line) and Blackfriars/Southwark is on the Jubilee line or by walking to Waterloo - two more lines. So either one would be fine. Euston slightly more convenient for general transport.

But again -- are those your only options? What is your budget.

Currently we are booked with the Euston one and that's a total of 479.75 GBP for 4 nights- so we want to keep it around there for our hotel budget. I'm not picking necessary because of being close to the London Eye or British Museum, but they are both close to tube lines. I just don't know if we will find the location to be better being at the Blackfrias spot because of the proximity to the attractions or not.

Those, I guess, are not our only options- but it's hard to find under 500 GBP for 4 nights May 28-June 1 that's why I booked the Euston one (ages ago) but relooking now, I'm wondering if the other hotel is better??

First of all, the Ibis London Blackfriars isn't in what I would call Blackfriars. It's across the river in Southwark.

Neither is a particularly picturesque area. That part of Southwark was once an industrial and working-class residential area, now very chi-chi because of Tate Modern and all the associated businesses round about. You'd come out from the hotel on to a major road, and the immediate surroundings aren't packed with restaurants and pubs. It's perfectly OK, but as janis has pointed out, the transport options aren't as good as at Euston. But a few minutes' walk would take you up to the South Bank for plenty of choice of sustenance.

The Euston St Pancras is right next to Euston station. I would imagine the hotel has been built with decent soundproofing against the noise of station announcements. It's just round the corner from Drummond Street: I haven't been there for some years, but it always used to be the centre for Indian restaurants. A longer walk away and across the main road, and you'd be in the rather more villagey atmosphere of Bloomsbury.

In the end, it depends what attractions are more likely to attract you...........

That is a good price - I'd just stay with the Euston property unless Blackfriars is cheaper. It is walking distance to the British Library, Regents Park and the British Museum.

Blackfriars is walking distance to Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market, the river and Eye.

So both are close to sites --

And I omitted the Tate (and the Globe for that matter) being near the Southwark/Blackfriars property. There are more actual 'sites' near southwark, but Euston will be a bit easier transport-wise and for seeing other parts of London (the main sites in central London are spread from Kensington Gardens/Notting Hill in the west to the Tower of London in the east, and Southwark to Regents Park)
