London hotel - kids
 

I know this question has been posed before but it seems that every time I get a good lead, I find a negative review from either here or trip advisor. Looking for room in good location for adult & 3 kids, around $300/night. I like the idea of smaller hotel with breakfast but am flexible. Would prefer either double & 2 twins or 4 twins over 2 doubles. On Travel Inn County website, they do not allow more than 2 kids 15 & under. Help!

Have you considered an apartment? We rented one after recommendations from this board.It included continental breakfast. We stayed at Somerset Queen's Gate Gardens. The site is www.the-ascott.com. We were very pleased.

I agree with the above post! We stayed at the Somerset Queens Gate Gardens in January for a week. Lots of space, with separate bedrooms for the kids. The kitchenette was tiny, but just great for preparing snacks etc. There is a free laundry in the basement which means you can pack light. The location was terrific: can walk to about three museums plus Kensington Gardens. By the way, the rates are cheaper going through www.Londonservicedapartments.uk than booking directly with Ascott. We will definately stay there next time we are in London.

Search this forum on "London and quad". There are several good threads with many suggestions. We booked 2 interconnecting rooms at the Cranley Gardens Hotel in So. Kensington (we're going in 2 weeks) at 89GBP per room per night.

Have you tried Novotel, which has several locations in and just outside London proper and have a kids-stay-free plan? Maybe they would allow three children and one adult. Www.novotel.com.

Also, one can find a negative review on-line for ANY hotel, so for me one negative review is not determinative. I put the one bad review in perspective by considering the source, the context, and other reviews.

I agree with sanday re: negative reviews. If there's only 1 negative and several positive, I'm not overly concerned. If there are a few negatives that seem to have similar complaints, than I'd worry. I find that many of the 'isolated' negatives frequently involve some kind of mis-communication.

MFNYC - I am interested to hear what you think of Cranley Gardens.

We'll be there 4/7-11 and will report upon out return. There is 1 negative comment on tripadvisor that did concern me, but the others were all very positive. We had also found a family room at the Abcone hotel that was a bit less, but we opted for the 2 rooms instead and the reviews of abcone were even more mixed.

Nicol - is the Somerset Queen's Gate Gardens the same as the Chequers of Kensington on the londonservicedapartments website? Just want to be sure I am asking for the right property!

chequers had just renovated the 2 bedroom apartments.

We stayed at the Ramada Renaissance in south kensington - it is a beautiful hotel, reasonably priced and a great breakfast. We saw familes with kids there but didnt see the rooms they were in. It's worth checking out- the neighborhood is great-safe convenient and near 2 tube stops. It's new, very clean, big beautiful & modern bathrooms- I would absolutely stay there again. It's not like any of the Ramada's in US!!

Try a website called www.euracom.co.uk. They do apartments all over London. we stayed in a lovely one near Tower Bridge that had a twin room, a double room, and a sofa bed in the living room. Also stayed in Citadines in Northumberland Road (just off Trafalgar sq), and they have a breakfast room.

BetsyG- Chequers is the same as Queen's Gate Gardens. That was the name before the Ascott group took over.

We just rented a two bedroom flat in the South Kensington area from londonconnection.com, and were pleased with both the location and price. It was about $200 per night, and a great alternative to being in a cramped hotel room.

If you really want travel inn at County hall, then book in as 2 adults and 2 children anyway, it costs no more.

Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. Shows how often I get a chance to log onto Fodors! (another story). Yes, as indicatd above, the Somerset Queens Gate Gardens is the same as Chequers of Kensington.
