London Hotel for family with kids
 

Hi,

We will be in London in lat July and would like to find hotels that can accommodate two adults and 2 kids (4 & 5) in one room. And is located in central London. Mid to slightly high price. Would appreciate any recommendations!

What is your actual budget?

There are many dozens of hotels that will have rooms with 2 double beds - although that is often an upgraded room, Agree that an actual dollar or pound amount is necessary to advise you. (I recall one poster who was looking for family rooms in Italy for about $70 per night - based on the cost of roadside budget motels in the US.)

Our family of 4 stayed at 51 Buckingham Gate which is very near to Buckingham Palace. I would consider it slightly high price for central London but you get a lot of space for your money. The hotel is owned by Taj Hotels and has rooms as well as serviced apartments. We had a 2br apartment with a living room, kitchen/dining area and 2 baths. We also had daily maid service and there was a concierge and front desk downstairs. We were able to walk a great deal from this location and there is also a tube station right down the street.

I liked the Holiday Inn Mayfair for room size and location. The rooms are modern and spacious by London standards, can accommodate a family of four and the location is very central. Across the street you will find Green Park tube station, a Starbucks and Marks and Spencers Simply Food.

Hiltons and Holiday Inns, though lacking in local charm, often have American style rooms with 2 doubles and work well for families.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Kensinton which is now a Crowne Plaza. It sleeps four. Can't tell you what the cost is for it now as we are using points to stay there.

Another thought is to check out some apartment rentals instead of a hotel. They are generally more spacious, less expensive and more comfortable for a group. Plus you'll have a kitchen for some basics such as milk, cereal and juice in the morning or snacks in the evening.

I have used Ownersdirect.com and Home Away holiday rentals and I believe they have units available in London. If this is of interest, let us know and I'm sure other Fodorites will have some recommendations for you as well.

$250 isn't 'slightly high' in London. That is approx £150 which is a definitely not a splurge budget for a quad room. $300 is about £180 which is better. A simple/budget (but good) hotel like Luna & Simone near Victoria station charges £170/$285 a night for a quad in summer. http://www.lunasimonehotel.com/

You would do better renting a flat - a large studio or small one bedroom might run in the region of £100-£125/$170-$210 a night.

Google Travellodge - they are doing family 'saver' rooms from about £50 a night in London in July. The saver bookings are the same rooms as the others, it's just that they are non-refundable bookings if you change your mind - but if your hol dates are fixed it's not a problem.

Modern and characterless, but clean, cheap, reliable and some in good locations.
