where to stay in hyde park area so we can walk to some attractions? 4-5 star

Just what do you mean by 4-5 star? A true 5-star, at least to me, would mean something like the Mandarin Oriental or the Dorchester. Both could easily run $500+ per night. If you are looking to splash out that kind of money, then I think the Connaught and Ritz are in pretty good, central locations near Hyde Park. The Metropolitan and the Dorchester would offer park views. If you wanted to stay in Kensington, then the Mandarin springs to mind. Can't offer any advice other than to say they are in nice locations, though, as I can't bring myself to splash out that kind of money for a hotel in London.

If you are looking more for the 4-star range, then I like the location of the Marriott Park Lane, and friends who have stayed there spoke highly of it. In Kensington, my most recent London stay was at the Sheraton Park Tower, which I thought was in a decent spot and had nice rooms. Also in Kensington, I had friends that enjoyed their stay at the Jumeriah Lowndes, which often has good deals.

I would also advise that London is big and no hotel will be walking distance to everything. We might need a bit more info on what you want to walk to most. If you want to explore the parks and maybe walk to Buckingham Palace, then something along the southern edge of Hyde Park or along Green Park would work. If you want to walk to the theater and some nightlife, then I'd say that the Covent Garden Hotel or One Aldwych would be in better spots. If you want to walk to shopping, then the better Kensington hotels are near Harrods, Harvey Nichols and other shopping. Somewhere like the Marriott Park Lane would be closest to Selfridges and the Oxford Street area.

You should consider using Priceline and bidding for a hotel in that area in the 4-5 stars category.

You need to tell us your budget since stars don't mean much.

Also-- Hyde Park is huge and areas near there include Bayswater, Lancaster Gate, Mayfair, Nightsbridge, South Kensington, Kensington, Queensway, MarbleArch. And many of these areas are not walking distance from any sites except for the Park itself.

So -what sites do you want to be near and your budget and then we can help a bit . . .

re the Priceline suggestion -- PL is good for London, but none of the PL zones will assure you of ending up near Hyde Park.
