London Hotel

My husband and I are traveling to London in mid June. We have booked at the Notting Hill Comfort Inn. Has anyone stayed there?

Muddy_Paws Apr 15th, 2003 08:24 PM

Lorissa - two friends and myself are staying there the first week of June, so I'll be watching for replies as well. Perhaps we'll run into each other at some point.

Melissa

Lorissa - if you do a search on "Hillgate", which is this hotel's original name, you'll get some previous posts about it to read through.

Melissa

Melissa - What a small world that you will be there in June. Thanks for the tips on searching "Hillgate", the posts helped.

Sorry....we had a bad experience in the Comfort Inn Notting Hill, just last month (March). We thought we'd try a new location in London, which isn't bad, and the hotel appeared nice on the internet , plus the rate was good. Had the reservations several months ahead. Upon arriving they told us that one of their boilers was not working (no heat or hot water) and sent us by taxi to their sister hotel about 8 blocks away,Comfort Inn Bayswater. I had worked hard in getting a hotel, the Notting Hill, close to a tube stop...bad knees. The Bayswater C Inn was not close to ANYTHING, restaurants, tube, shopping. We were with another couple and their room at the Bayswater was a disgrace. As we were leaving the following day (we checked out early) we heard the manager tell four ladies who came to check in that the boiler was OUT at that hotel ALSO and they couldn't stay there (Bayswater). Seems supicious to me that they would be out in BOTH hotels. (perhaps they overbooked, or got better price). Anyway...the breakfast was good at the Bayswater...I never found out what the Notting Hill would have been like,(but is similar, I understand) but felt like the whole situation was strange. We travel a LOT overseas, and adapt quite easily....but felt like this time we were being "jerked" around. I talked with Comfort Inn customer service after arriving home....Each Comfort Inn in London is a separate franchise. Perhaps you will have better luck, and you probably WILL. These things do happen however.
The Notting Hill CI was telling the family behind us the SAME story, so guess they also were shipped off to another hotel.

Lorissa (and to anyone else considering a stay at the Comfort Inn Notting Hill) - I wrote to them with my concerns after reading the previous post by mari3. Here is the timely response I received:

Dear Mrs Noel,

It was good to hear from you!
There is no reason to worry about it. You have booked the room at
Comfort Inn Notting Hill and you will have the room at this hotel, not
another.
We did have problems with the heating in the past but all the times we
tried our best to please all of our guests. It is for our much regret
that not all of them were deeply satisfied with their accommodation but
more over to hear such bad comments about our sister hotel like, Comfort
Inn Bayswater. I have worked in Comfort Inn Bayswater for almost 6
months and I know it is a nice hotel, with nice people, good service...
Nevertheless I do hope that you will enjoy your staying with us!
Looking forward to welcoming you to Comfort Inn Notting Hill!

Best regards,

Christina
Christina Irimia

Central Reservations Office
London Town Hotels
'Phone: +44 (0)20 7229 6666
Fax: +44 (0)20 7229 3333
www.london-town-hotels.com

Hope this helps allay some fears,
Melissa

I've booked travel clients at the NOTTING HILL COMFORT INN. Think you'll be quite pleased. Going to London myself May 28th, but returning to US on June 5th. Utilizing Marriott's Park Lane & also Grosvenor. Enjoy your holiday.

Muddy Paws...and Lorissa.....I do hope your stay at the comfort Inn Notting Hill works out fine, and as I said..."it probably will". I was just telling you OUR experience, and I still think there was something a little "fishy" about it all...and as I said...these things do happen.

I wouldn't trust either hotel at this point (even taking into consideration the "nice" letter you received.) What else are they going to say??? .
We have lived overseas and travel overseas about twice a year and would feel more comfortable in another area of London next time. The Notting Hill area is rather pretty and is across from Hyde Park.....AND ..if we had been able to stay where we originally booked, the Comfort Inn Nottinghill, we would have been just across the street from the tube.
I will watch for your report when you return and feel that you will have a good experience. Have a great trip!

I wonder if you should consider staying at the Marriott like that travel agent rather than staying where that same travel agent sends some of the clients..if you ask the agent nicely you might also get a discount!

Muddy_Paws Apr 19th, 2003 08:56 PM

Bootman - you just might have a good point there. Sort of makes you wonder, doesn't it. (grin)

Mari3 - I realize that this hotel rep. may just be painting a rosy picture - who's to know from across an ocean, right? Guess I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best (and possibly be prepared with an alternative plan). I'll let you all know how this turns out. Honestly, though, after experiencing the Terstan Hotel on a previous trip to London with a tour group , I think that I can tolerate anything this Comfort Inn might throw my way.

Melissa

Thank you to everyone's replies! I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 7 years now, and I can personally understand that "wierd" things sometimes happen. I'm crossing my fingers as well and keeping my current reservation. I just could'nt the price and location (since we are staying 5 nites/6 days).
