London for an evening...
Myself and 2 friends will be in London for an evening (flying back to the US after being in Italy for 8 days). We're arriving at 4pm Heathrow and leaving early the next morning. We would like suggestions on hotel, reasonably priced approx. $200 - $300 US per night.
Also, we'd like to know if theres anything we might could do in approx 4 to 5 hours time....a tour or sorts? Ride the London Eye?
thanks!

I'd probably find a hotel near the airport, using Priceline (I paid less than $80 for 4*s near Heathrow in May/June).
Then, take Heathrow Express or underground into London for the evening.
There are evening bus tours (hop-on-hop-off) that are quite nice, the London Eye would be great (if the weather cooperates), it's great fun just to walk around the city in the evening - many buildings are beautifully lit. Also, places like Covent Garden are often open in the evenings.
Have fun!

How early the next morning? Since you need to be at the airport about 2+ hours before your frlight (some airlines recommend 3 hours), it is probably best to stay near the airport. Priceline is great for airport hotels - but they only deal in doubles. But heck - w/ a cheap enough bid you can probably afford 2 rooms.
There are some airport hotels (such as the Premier Travel Inn) w/ inexpensive rates even w/o using Priceline.
Once you have you hotel nailed down - you can spend til nearly midnight enjoying London and still be able to take the tube back out to LHR

LeonBerger, thanks! We did know about the Heathrow Express we were certainly going to use this. I'll chat with my friends on the Priceline thing.
I do like the evening bus tour, any idea what it's called? web site?
Janisj, thanks! One flight is 10:25AM so he'll be there at 8AM, we're on the later 11AM. I don't expect us to care how late we stay out as we'll certain make use of alarm clocks and wake up calls.
I think we'll look at hotels near the airport.
Suggestions on a fun place for dinner?

Instead of staying near the aiport, I suggest you stay near Paddington, or other parts of London convenient to the the express train to Heathrow. (Check out the Hilton and see if you can get a deal.) You'll have to get a wake-up call and set your alarms (if you sleep at all!!!!!), but if you are on a train to Heathrow by 6:30 am, you should be fine.
London is so full of marvelous places it's hard to recommend just one. But how about taking the night bus tour and then going to Notting Hill for some bar hopping? I wouldn't bother with a sit down dinner. Just grab some kebab or pub food or pizza on the go.

I thought you meant "<b>early</b>". 10:25 and 11:00 aren't early, 0600, 0700 - now that is early . . . .
W/ late morning flights like that I wouldn't bother staying out at LHR. You can get out to the airport in 15 mins on the Heathrow Express or 45-50 mins on the tube. W/ the new info, I'd probably stay in London. Most convenient to the HEX would be Paddington - but you could stay almost anywhere.
