London for 2 weeks?
Is 2 weeks in London too long? Should I stay a week, and then take the train to Paris and stay there a few days (or week)? (even though I don't really have a desire to go to Paris...) Or perhaps some other European city (what else is reasonably close by train?)

I am thinking about moving to London so I really want to get a feel for the city. Two weeks might be just enough time or too long. Any suggestions?

Two weeks is not too long for London - especially if you have any thoughts about living there. "Is two weeks too long?" really cannot be answered. You can't possibly see all of London in two months - or two years for that matter. But if you want to see other things, of course you could stay one week and go somewhere else.

But you could certainly rent a nice apartment for 2 weeks (some give discounts for stays longer than 7 days) and get the feel of actually living there. And with 2 weeks you could take your time and not have to ruch from site to site.

And you can take inexpensive day trips out of London to many parts of England on the train or by coach (bus)

Definitely not! I was in England for 13 days - spent 9 in London and 4 outside of it, but could have easily spent the whole time in London. If you want day trips to see outside of London, consider short ones like Windsor Castle or Hampton Court Palace or Oxford or Canterbury, or a little farther like Salisbury or Bath or...well, you get the idea. The English countryside is so beautiful, there is no need to go to Paris if you don't want to. Just hop on a train and tour around! Have fun.

Whilst a fortnight in London is not a time enough to do everything here, I think that two weeks in any city could wear you out.
Why not plan a few days in Paris? Or hop on a plane to the Scottish Highlands or to Jersey or Guernsey for a quieter time?
If you want to come and live here, I think you will get a good idea, but remember that being on holiday somewhere is never the same as living there.

Two weeks is not too long from the perspective of having enough to do. If you are an extravert, you'll love it, but if you're an introvert, it may be too long. But, better to find out before you move there.
Day trips would give you a break from the city, although some of the other areas like Bath, Oxford, Windsor Castle, Stratford-on-Avon are also packed with tourists. Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens are close and relatively quiet. A boat ride to Greenwich is also nice.

Two weeks is not a lot of time if you are thinking about moving there ... it gives you plenty of time to scout out areas, etc. We routinely stay there 2 weeks when on vacation (we rent an apartment). If you want to "get out of town" for a day or so it's real easy, hop a train and you can be elsewhere in the UK in a short time, for example York is just 2 hours away. If you are not interested in Paris don't go. Why spend money going a place you are not interested in anyway?

Investigate London well then do the day trips, as suggested above. You can take a train to Moreton-on-Marsh, the only Cotswold village served by train, I believe. Its a couple hours out of London.
