and then click on the search button to find the hygiene scores for different restaurants.

I notice that the Scottish "restaurant" scores very highly in this at least ;-)

I saw a piece about this on the local news.

Good idea- but I'd have thought any restaurant with a low rating would do their best to get reinspected immediately, rather than waiting however long it takes for the next normal visit. Have we got the inspectors to cope with the increased demand, I wonder?

Yes. If you mention its name you have to go outside, turn around and knock to be let in.
Just for fun, I looked up Aberdeen Steakhouse and two had three stars and one had four.
