London fashion

We will be in London and surrounding area between Thanksgiving and Christmas. What type of clothes would be appropriate? Will English ladies be wearing something other than black?

What type of clothes will be appropriate depend on you (age, style - classic, trendy, casuale) and activities (hiking in the country, opera, theater and lots of upscale restaurants).

Yes, lots of women will wear colors other than black. But you won't see a lot of bright pastels on grown women

Being of a certain age, I always wear black trousers and a black jacket or coat. I brighten this up with a coloured top, blouse, sweater, etc, or a bright scarf/pashmina.

My teenage daughters wear everything other than black.

So as nytraveler says, what is appropriate depends on you.

Thank you for your suggestions! Guess you'd consider me a "young" Senior! I do wear a lot of black, but during the holidays I like colors with sequins and beads!

As someone who live in UK and worked in London in the recent past I would just say it depends on what is in fashion. Yes lots of people wear black, but burgundy, brown, tan, khaki, purples, etc are also popular at that time of year. Brighten it up with a patterned top. Not sure what colours they are showing for this autumn (fall)as the sales are still on.

You can wear whatever you want as long as it is warm, but I'm not quite sure where you hope to wear sequins and beads?

In mentioning sequins and beads, I was referring to the fancier tees that have this sort of decoration!

This is the big city, sweetie darling. You will see anything and everything. But, having been born in London I can tell you that the damp of December can kill you--go right through to your bones until you ache. So, dress in wooly layers and you will be OK.

If you want to look like an English lady, you have to dress like the late Isabella Blow.

Love your cardi,
