London Eye - reserved tickets or not?

Should we pay for a reserved time on the London Eye, to avoid long lines in late August, or pay the more reasonable cost and wait in line? How long of a wait do you think it will be?
Thanks
Sue

Based on what I've read here, I'd avoid pre-reserving tickets too far ahead of time, as you don't want to be stuck going on a day that's rainy/cloudy.

Having said that, I believe there is a phone # you can call to reserve tickets in advance, so technically, you can call in the AM to reserve tickets for the afternoon. This way, you avoid waiting in line, yet you can be more sure of the weather.

We went late August (the 31st) last year with reserved tickets. It was a Sunday evening around sundown, and it was almost empty. In our "car", there were 5 of us and 3 other guys. Other cars were vacant. I would be flexible, so you can go when the weather is best.

yk is totally correct. Don't pre-book Eye tickets since it is really weather dependent. They don't cancel the ride when it rains or the ceiling is really low -- so you could be stuck w/ tix for a time it is drippy/drizzly and essentially no views.

Phone the Eye the morning of the day you decide the weather is decent enough.

I'm taking 6 friends on a Champagne flight in May - and I'm not even pre-booking that until possibly the day before.
