We are looking to stay at a good hotel in London England next September. Looking through the websites and books, the prices look outrageous. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yes, Priceline should help you with the hotel costs somewhat.

If you can stand the almost 2 to 1 exchange rate (for US dollars anyway) then perhaps the rest wonlt be too bad.

Of course, by the time you go things may have improved. I have always found London to be an expensive city (and may of my Brit friends agree). It was expensive when I was there last month and I expect it to be expensive when I go over next April.

Many here, including me, use Londontown.com for London hotels. Bookings made there are cancelable and payment is made at checkout. If you can better define what you are looking for in the hotel and what you are willing to pay you will get some good advice.

I just purchased a London hotel stay on priceline yesterday. I was hoping for one of those $70 Marble Thistle Bloomsbury zone rates, but it was not to be. I eventually bid $95 USD (119 with taxes and fees) for the 4* Jolly St Ermin's in Westminster (I was hoping for Riverbank Plaza which I got last year in this zone). I'm not crazy about the look of the standard rooms but reviews are consistently good.

I think there may be 5* hotel in Mayfair Soho that you could get for $190 USD. You actually have a very big hotel budget.

Byron...I actually used Londontown.com for my hotel booking this past September (avoiding Priceline since I wanted a specific hotel).

I found the rates on Londontown to be very competitive and often better than those I found on other discount sites.

I suggest you look to see which hotels they are offering at the time of year you want to visit and ones that fit within your budget and then come back and ask about those specific properties/look them up on Tripadvisor.com

Try hoteldoorman.com. They seem to have excellent rates at various hotels. May be a bit soon for Sept, but I found better rates there for our mMarch trip than londontown.com.

The London School of Economics makes their student accomodations available during Christmas, Easter, and summer break (which includes the month of September). The rooms range from shared bath to ensuite to apartment studios, many quite nice. Facilities in many include breakfast, laundry, housekeeping, tv, etc.

What a great deal! And most are in excellent locations. Two problems for me are: no A/C, and I'm wanting to travel earlier in June than they become available. However, I would think this is an ideal budget solution for many families especially... Thanks for sharing!

Have you considered renting a flat instead of a hotel? There are lots available. I've used this one several times & have been happy with them. If you're in the US, the prices quoted are in dollars, not pounds & I notice the flat I always rent hasn't gone up in 2 years even though the dollar's value has gone down.
