London During Rugby International September 2015
 

We are staying in London as tourists during the time the International Rugby Tournament is occurring around London. Air fare and hotels are more expensive because of this I see. But, I'm wondering if London will be crowded with Rugby fans. We are mostly going to museums and parks etc. Thanks.

Except in sports bars, pubs w/ TVs, and on the tube lines running to the stadiums before/after matches, you won't notice a thing.

London will be crowded.

That's partly because it's the world's most visited city, and the world's soft power capital. But it's mainly because <b> it's a city </b>

The point about real cities is that millions of people live and work in them and millions more come into them from their hinterland to get fed and entertained. That means crowds: 18 hours a day, 364.5 days a year: London does empty out a bit on Xmas morning.

The odd minor sporting event (on not one day of the rugby World Cup will rugby attract even one tenth of the crowds watching professional football in London every single Saturday from August to May) is completely insignificant. The tube lines to Twickenham, Wembley and Stratford are designed to handle those crowds every day. And do.

We didn't notice the Olympics. This is not a cow town.

About the only sporting event that is noticeable is the London Marathon - but that's because of closed roads.

I think it is just that most folks don't understand London and how vast it is. The US Open doesn't much affect NYC, and likewise amost no events (except tube strikes) affect London for the average visitor.
