London Dungeon & Tower of London
Hi there,
I have friends travelling to London in June and they were hoping to pre-purchase tickets to these two attractions but did not know what days they would decide to go. Is it possible to pre-purchase tickets without specifying the day that you wish to use them? And if so, what is the best website to do this through. Did not specifically want to do the Big Bus thing or London Pass unless they could just buy a London Pass for these two things. Thanks all in advance for your help.

I'm not usually one to criticize what people want to do, but why do your friends want to do the London Dungeon? It's basically the definition of a tourist trap. The Tower is basically the real version.
As for the actual question, no idea, sorry.

grsing - no thanks for the unwarranted and unasked for critisism. It is not for me to question why these people want to do what they want to do...I'm merely asking a question for someone as a favour. But thanks for sending my post back to the top anyway.

I checked www.LondonTown.com and it does ask for dates. But they could still buy the tickets after they get to London. Once they get there and decide what day to go, they can visit an internet cafe and purchase the tickets on line. Once they have made their purchase they can print out their voucher. Another possibility is that the hotel can help them. Lines can be very long for these attractions so it's a very good idea to buy in advance.

For the Tower, you can buy tickets from the official website:
http://www.hrp.org.uk/visit.htm
They will mail them to the U.S. but you need some lead time--if they are going in June they should be fine to buy them right away. The tickets are valid for a 7-day "window"---in other words, you choose a "start" date and they are good on that day and on any of the following six days.
There are deals on a combination ticket with other royal palaces, but not with the dungeon.
Hope this helps.

Danielle: grsing's "criticism" may have been unasked for - but it certainly wasn't unwarranted. Just the title of your thread made me wince.
But never mind - no accounting for what some visitors consider a "must see". There is no reason what so ever to pre-purchase tickets to either place before they get to London. They can buy tickets to the Tower at a tube station. Or if they get to the Tower just before opening time (which is best) then there is no line to speak of.
Usually there is not much of a queue at the Dungeon.

I am with janisj on this, I also winced at the title.
You may want your friends to take a look at the reponses here. London Dungeon is a BIG, BIG waste of time. DH and I made the mistake of walking by and deciding to "try it out". We were so mad at ourselves for wasting time and money there. It was like a haunted house gone bad - it reminded me of the haunted houses you go to at your hometown carnivals. Sorry - just had to give my 2-cents.
Tower of London, on the other hand, was 100% worth it and was top on our list of favorite things to see in London

My daughter liked the London Dungeon. Warning - it's stinky, at least in August. Anyway, we got a special discount deal for the London Dungeon from a brochure at our hotel. I vaguely think there might be something on Lastminute.com . The London Dungeon is really just another sort of London theatre - there are actors scattered throughout it. I wouldn't buy an advance ticket unless you get a special deal.

If the reason for pre-purchase is to avoid queues on the day they want to go, then
for the Tower, tickets are valid for seven days and can be bought at any tube station:
http://www.historicroyalpalaces.org/...ent.asp?ID=751
for the London Dungeon, you can book 24 hours in advance:
http://www.thedungeons.com/tickets.htm. Or your friends could call them for advice on (0)20 7403 7221

The queues can be very long at the London Dungeon and they never appear to move quick. I work opposite there and am amazed at the number of people waiting to get in but that is generally in school holidays which your friends will miss in June. if there is a way to pre-book then it's probably a good idea.
I have been in their once (on a two-for-one deal) and thought it was okay but I would never queue for long to get in. It's not as bad as people on this forum continually make it out to be.

It's not that it's awful, so much as it's in London, and just can't compare well with what else the city has to offer. If I'd been stuck in Hamburg for more than the day I way, I might very well have considered going (to the Hamburg branch), but, with limited time in London, now way.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful suggestions. I would just like to say that (for the record) I would not set foot in the London Dungeon, but the people who I am asking on behalf of have been there before and liked it. I agree that the Tower of London is a MUST see and only wish that it was me going instead. To those of you who winced at my title - I apologise and will try not to upset you again in future. But I must say those "If I wear sneakers in Europe will everyone know I'm American" ones make me feel nauseous.
