London Day Tour to Liverpool

I’m looking for information for a day tripfrom London to Liverpool.
If anyone has information for Beetle Tours in Liverpool and best Train Line from London to Liverpool.
Thank you!

What do you mean by 'best train ride to Liverpool'? You buy a day return (round trip) ticket from Euston station. If you pre- purchase in advance it will be cheaper.

But this is a tough day trip since the fastest R-T journeys take 5 to 6 hours depending on which train you catch.

There are several different Beatles tours -- Magical Mystery, Beatles Explorer, and others. They are all pretty much equal-ish.

Thank you Janis very much. The time might not work.

It may be farther than you imagined . . . It is over 200 miles, almost exactly the same distance as Wash. DC to Manhattan

To do this justice at all would require an overnight stay in Liverpool. The Beatles Story at the dock is a good museum and overview, and The Magical Mystery Tour double deck bus is campy and pretty thorough. You can spend at least three hours in the Beatles Story and the bus is at least two hours....Many book a private car or taxi tour but the bus was ok with us and it was kind of fun being with other Beatles crazies. You will also need some time to wander about and go to The Cavern Club and that would be tough in a day trip. If you are young and don't care I suppose catching a super early train, spending the afternoon doing Beatles stuff and returning late night could work but it would be a burn.

stay over, it may mean you need to eat the cost of two hotels but that is one long day.

If you have the time in London, 'London Walks' offer a few different walks with Beatles themes. I've done a lot of their walks (not the Beatles though), all were terrific.

I don't know when you are planning on going but avoid May 26th at all costs.
Bank holiday so everyone has the day off and it is the day Liverpool FC celebrates:

Whilst it would be a long day and it would be preferable stay longer it would be doable for a day trip if you are prepared to pay for a pricey train ticket or book well in advance. Many people suggest a day trip to York, which is only 20 minutes quicker to get to.

For example you could take a train arriving at 10am and arriving back in London at just after 10pm giving you close to 10 hours in Liverpool.

Really very few actually recommend a day trip to York -- it is doable but a lot of train time,

And to see the actual time involved w/ a day trip to Liverpool . . . "For example you could take a train arriving at 10am leaving London at 07:30, and arriving back in London at just after 10pm giving you close to 10 hours in Liverpool."

When adding in transit to/from Euston Station one is talking a 15 to 16 hour day. Humanly possible -- sure.

If you are on the trip of a lifetime and a big fan or have an interest in this kind of stuff, you should find a way to make it happen. Even a day trip. The memories and photos will last a long time and you will know you went over and above to see cool stuff and do cool things, even if it was a long day and you will be tired as can be. The train will be a great experience. Have a good tight battle plan when you hit the ground to maximize time and efficiency. Book tours in advance Mystery Tour loads right next to Beatles Story, read up on schedules and tickets. Good luck.

Janis - I agree with you that I wouldn’t recommend a day trip from London to either Liverpool or York but it clearly can be done if the desire is there. If I was doing it I would be staying in or around Euston.I would always say that longer is needed for both but I’m conscious that particularly for North Americans holiday time is very limited.

Maybe nobody recommends day trips to York on here but I assure that I often see it being suggested on other fora.

If you can manage an overnight, I recently stayed at the Radisson RED hotel which is next to Lime Street station in Liverpool - there is even a direct entrance from the station (though you have to ask staff to let you through.) Fabulous hotel and so easy and quick to get to the train.

You can spend hours in the Cavern Club alone, they have live music all day and night and it is so much fun being around so many happy people.
