London - Cumberland Hotel/Thistle Kensington Palace - Comments Please

We had been researching an August trip to London through Go-Today.com but recently discovered a more reasonable option with British Airways. But the choice of hotels has changed. BA offers both the Cumberland & the Thistle - The Cumberland costing approx $150 more p.p. for 8 days.
We were told that the Cumberland is in the process of renovating the ground floor but have been also told it will not effect our room or quality of stay.
Has anyone been at the Cumberland recently? If you had to choose - which of the two would you stay at?

Thanks

I stayed at the Cumberland last summer in a room that hadn't yet been renovated. It was old and shabby and tiny. Definitely not worth the money. It's in a good location though. If you stay there, make sure you get a renovated room.

Forgot to ask: Does anyone know if all the Cumberland's rooms have been renovated? Don't want to get stuck with one of the old rooms?

Don't know the Cumberland, but have stayed at the Thistle Kensington twice. It's fine, but rooms vary wildly. If you go, make sure you ask for a renovated room.

Kebanks,

Thanks for replying. Do the rooms have air-conditioning? Will it be needed in August?
Thanks
