&[pound];
&[euro];
&[copy];

NeoPatrick Apr 19th, 2007 07:49 AM

Yea, that worked??????

janisj Apr 19th, 2007 08:34 AM

No - you don't use the [ ] brackets . . £

Or - just get a mac and click alt+3 £

audere_est_facere Apr 19th, 2007 08:41 AM

Or just be british where £ and $ are on the top row of the keyboard.

NeoPatrick Apr 19th, 2007 08:42 AM

What I was referring to above was -- don't you have to first press the ALT or CTRL key or something? It's also clear that different computers or systems work in different ways.

NeoPatrick Apr 19th, 2007 08:43 AM

My point is, obviously you have to do something different to get the symbol rather than the actual things you typed, otherwise how could you be showing us what you type? Wouldn't it automatically show up as the symbol?

janisj Apr 19th, 2007 08:46 AM

try it -- & pound ; (w/o spaces) that is all it takes. no other key stroke -- £ €

PatrickLondon Apr 19th, 2007 09:22 AM

I used brackets and janisj used spaces to show the notation. But the &...; combination is a standard ASCII convention which should work no matter what computer system you're using.

Here's a table:

OK, I'll type what you said £ and we'll see if I get the symbol or what I typed.

NeoPatrick Apr 19th, 2007 09:42 AM

phew. It worked.

BTilke Apr 19th, 2007 09:47 AM

Patrick, since you travel to the UK fairly frequently, why not bring home a UK keyboard as a souvenir. You can get them really cheap on Tottenham Court Road...we got our latest for £10 (could have gotten them even cheaper, but I like this one's feel). Has the £, € and $ symbol right on the keyboard. Perfect gift for American Fodorites who like to post about travel in Europe.

noe847 Apr 19th, 2007 09:49 AM

I usually just type the symbol in Word and copy and paste it into the reply box. Or copy it from someone up above in the thread and likewise paste it. works well: £

Here's a thread that gives all kinds of info about colors, formatting, etc. codes (as well as how to make the commands show up without having to put spaces or brackets)

noe847 Apr 19th, 2007 09:50 AM

whoops, here's the link to that thread:

Both discounts are great. In the Chez Gerard discount you can skip the meal altogether and it's still cheaper than a regular Wicked ticket. With the Hard Rock Cafe discount, you get the meal and the show for the price of the show.
