London - CHEAP /central accom?
 

My husband and I are seeking cheap but clean and central accomodation. Does such places exist in London? (Piccadily circus area would be ideal). We want private rooms however we are ok with sharing washrooms to keep the $ down. can anyone recommend a hotel/hostel or 2. Also, any sites to find cheap accomodation if you input/match available dates...

Under $100/night will be tough. You might try Priceline, though - there are lots of threads here discussing that option. Otherwise if you're open to hostels, I've stayed in a couple of the Astor chain and was pleased. It's been several years, though, so you'll want to look for current reviews. The Museum location is my preference, but the Victoria one is good as well. They (and many other hostels) do have an age limit, though when I was there in 2007 they didn't seem to be terribly strict about it.

At least one poster here has also recommended the YHA hostel near St. Paul's. It's not really near Piccadilly Circus, but still perfectly central.

From searching these boards, try travelodge and premier inn, both have decent rates, good luck.

Definitely try Priceline.

The Priceline recommendation is a good one - - my last few stays in London have all been great 4* hotels with large rooms for around $100 (or less). It's good to check www.biddingfortravel.com to see what other people have been bidding successfully, and try the same bids (using the "name your own price" option).

easyHotel has five locations in London, including one at Heathrow. Cheap means tiny rooms; in the single room you can't turn around unless you stuff your suitcase under the bed. Want a TV? The tuner is extra. The toilet/shower is the size of a broom closet.
BUT: The locations are okay, the facilities are clean if rather orange (the chain's trademark), and the operations very efficient -- no surprise, since the company was set up by the founder of the laudable easyJet airlines.
As to price: 49 pounds for the basic room for two near Paddington station; 45 pounds in Earl's Court. Read all about it at http://www.easyhotel.com/

Priceline is great -- but remember that if you bid/win a hotel for $95 or $100 taxes and fees will bring the total up to around $125.

the exchange rate is currently good - and CAN$100 is about £65 -you should be able to find rooms for that. If you strike out w/ priceline, try laterooms.com and londontown.com

Priceline has been great for me, I got the 4* Thistle Marble Arch for $72 US/night including tax.

If you are not comfortable with that here's anoter place I've stayed. It's right by Victoria Station.

Samo: 100 quid is 160 dollars and that's 60% over budget for the OP.

To the OP: look into studio apartments for rent, you could find something inexpensive but that cheap near Pic Circus will be very difficult.

Check www.yha.org.uk for another good chain of hostels. There are several in London, and you should be able to get a private room at one. While we didn't use YHA in London (and I wish we had), we had great stays at several other YHA properties in the UK.

I agree with ElendilPickle/Lee Ann. YHA hostels are a good option in London. We toured the one by St.Paul's Cathedral and were impressed with it. I think it was around 60 pounds per night for a private room in off season.

University accommodation is often let out in the student vacations (if that's when you'll be here). Try www.lsevacations.co.uk or www.londonuniversityrooms.co.uk/

we have been looking for something in the same price range. we are going to try bidding for a room on priceline. i have been looking at biddingfortravel's site and it seems like a lot of 3 and 4 star rooms go for under $100 US. if you are 2 people with no special needs (2 beds, pets, etc.) priceline bidding can be a real win. we'll see... too early for us to start bidding.
