If you are only going to be in London, you will not need (or want) a car. Their public transportation (tube, buses, taxis) is the best way to get around.

If you'll be touring outside of London, we found the best rates through the British Airways website (<b>www.ba.com</b>) Also try <b>www.autoeurope.com</b>

&quot;Around&quot; London? Meaning that you plan to use it outside London, one might hope? A Travelocity search shows that the lowest rates offered are sharply higher at STN, LCY or LTN. Lowest is &quot;Practical&quot; at LHR with two models under $150 (USD). At LGW or LHR either one, Enterprise and Dollar have compacts in the $130's as well, and intermediate cars just slightly above $150.

You might find lower rates than this - - but this is a giood example of how Travelocity can actually provide useful baseline info, better than Autoeurope, its-cars-hotels.com, kemwel etc.

Best wishes,

Rex

i should have been clearer...the car is for travelling outside of london after i have completed the stay in the city...looking to avoid airport surcharges...thought someone might have a little known company rather than the big guys..

I have made a reservation with http://www.britishcarrental.com for our forthcoming Aug trip. They have good rates with all the incidentals covered. Another company I looked at was http://www.101ukcarrental.co.uk/.

Of course I cannot vouch for either of them but I can give you some feedback after our trip.

I got a &quot;three day&quot; from Europcar - picked it up in London @ their Warwick rd location on Sat AM and RT to LGW on Monday AM - they have/had no 2 day rentals.
It was a large Toyota 4dr w/AC and a 5sp - you'll pay lots more for an auto trans most places. The car was huge and very fuel efficient. Four folks were very comfortable and all the luggage (formal wedding stuff and 2 wk Euro continent vacation clothes) fit easily in the trunk.
$193. and change USDs!

It really depends on what type of car (automatic vs stick shift as well as size). There are generally greater selections of automatics at the airports. The &quot;brokers&quot; like autoeurope.com and europecar.com seem to have the best prices and can lead you to the best pick up/drop off locations to suit your needs. woods.uk is a local company mentioned.
