London bed and breakfast in a home

Has anyone any experience with agencies which book bed and breakfast in private homes in London? I have seen them on the web, but I have no idea if they are reliable or not. Has anyone used one? Or stayed in a home in London? i would love to hear!
Thanks

http://www.athomeinlondon.co.uk/ seems to offer this.

I dont' see how you are staying in a private home though to be honest. IF you are offering B&B then you are doing it as a small business, they aren't offering the rooms for free after all. I suppose they mean that this is not their primary way of making a living. But if you look for normal B&B listings it is quite common to find houses with only one or two B&B rooms in them, as part of the owners own home.

Yes and i always stay in one in Eltham, a suburb a short overground rail ride away - a real ordinary nice neighborhood well away from tourist hubbub. 21 pounds without breakfast, 23 pounds with breakfast - steps from the Eltham train station.
But most Fodorites would rather stay in central London, where this traditional type of B&B hardly exists i believe and B&Bs there are in fact luxury ones costing as much or more than hotels i think.
You could go thru B&B UK - one prominent agency for real B&Bs but be warned that i did this a few years ago and ended up in a halfway house in gritty Tufnell Park area - one night a resident who had freaked out was pounding on the door just outside my open window (heat wave of 2003) and finally the paddy wagon came and took him away. I found Mrs Win Taylor's very clean B&B by calling the Greenwich tourist board, which had a list of many ordinary typical British B&Bs in that borough.

Thanks for the ideas...I know these are small businesses, but they are people renting out rooms, as opposed to a hotel offering B and B. I will try at Home in London.

You could also look at http://tinyurl.com/oxghk

The word "home" is not used for house as much as it is in the US.
To me, your heading looks like somebody wanting bed and breakfast in an institution.
