London BB?
 

Hi,
Any recommendations for BB in London, with easy access to airport and somewhat centrally located to sights? Doing a lay over for 2 days with 11 year old who wants to see Harry Potter film locations.

I'd guess that you mean Heathrow if you're coming from the West Coast of the US, but you should be aware that you can't really have handy for the airport and close to sights. LHR is some twenty miles to the west of Central London and if you only have two days and you want to squeeze in Warner Brothers (25 miles to the North West of London), you have very little time, allowing for jetlag to see anything.

It also depends on what you mean by a B&B, as the definition varies from the US to the UK. A B&B is a small place run by the owners, usually in a residential house and rooms are let on a daily or weekly basis. You may or may not have ensuite facilities. I understand that the US definition is somewhat different, so you may be better with (depending on costs) a small hotel.

If you've seen some of the B&Bs in London, their definition isn't that different from the US. It is a smaller place, not always run by the owners but sometimes, but is not a home with rooms for let and no bathroom of your own. There are B&Bs in the US that meet the same definition as above, also. London may have more individual homes renting out only a room or so that big cities in the US, though. But I don't think that the "US definition" is really that different, but the OP may have something specifically in mind by that. In many cities in the US B&Bs are NOT cheap, however, but somewhat more upscale places (like Monterey, CA) and you aren't bunking with the nephew. But they often have a breakfast room, and more expensive ones usually have rooms with their own bathroom.

B&Bs in the US are usually a residential house, even if a big one that has been remodeled to add some bathrooms. ALl the ones I"ve stayed at have been, and they've all been small, also.

lol - I'm surprised that they aren't staying at the Ritz!

Since you are a travel agent -- shouldn't you know London well enough to at least know which areas are central?

And I'm sure you wouldn't look for properties for clients w/o asking their budget? Type of property? Why a B&B in particular? etc?

For my clients I do 5 star.

For myself, I prefer boutique, apartment, BB, clean & quiet. Paddington is quick and direct from Heathrow, so I think it would be wise to find a place there.

I went through sites with my 11 year old and she just wants to see the main sights, not Warner... We did the new Universal in Hollywood and it was fantastic..

I thought I'ld put it out there if anyone has stayed in Paddington and has a recommendation, modest, clean & quiet & kid friendly?

I really don't like the Paddington area of London and it's quite far from the main sites.

Don't know about b&bs in London but St Pancras area is probably better...it's on the tube to Heathrow and has good transit links.

It is only quick and direct from the airport - and is not a very convenient area for 'London'.

There are 10+ other, better, nicer neighborhoods. Anyplace is easy by car service. What is your budget?

OK -- which HP sites do you want to see? Except for platform 9 3/4 and Leadenhall Market, most HP sites are not in or near London.
