London B&B

If you are looking for a tradional English B&B - a room in a private house - these seem to exist mainly in the suburbs - like the one with an older lady landlord I stay at for about 25 pounds, with 'full' English breakfast.

What you may want to look at are London flats, often IME advertised as B&Bs - and there are zillions of these. But if budget is your driving force then be sure to check out the many Travelodges and Premier Inns - modern chain hotels that dot London - one British Fodorite reported recently that she did indeed score a 29 pound room at a Travelodge right near Covent Garden - to me one of the most desirable locations in central London. Even at full price Travelodge and Premier Inn rooms IMO are a bargain for pricey London and you will have guranteeably modern plumbing, etc.

We have used AtHomeinLondon twice very happily for two different B&B's--one in Belgravia that was roomy and nice and sooo convenient--not a cooked breakfast but plenty. Then one in Bayswater area (when we needed a room for 3) which was also fine--great breakfast and roomy if not very fancy. And we liked the area for its convenience, too, to a Tube stop and much else. http://www.athomeinlondon.co.uk/

Mostly what you get in London are small-ish tourist grade B&B hotels. Simple hotels, no public spaces, breakfast room in the basement -- that sort of thing. They can be terrific or terrifically bad. Harlingford and Luna & Simone are good examples.

A traditional B&Bs like you'll find in the countryside are pretty rare in central London. Zillions of them? not hardly. And you don't want to head too far out into the commuter belt to find a traditional B&B since it would hours to your daily transport.

What is your budget? We can then point you in the right direction (not just copy/paste snippets from google searches) ;)

If school is not in session the LSE is a pretty good deal. The room price includes a generous breakfast and is bus convenient to central London. http://tinyurl.com/2a4ghj7

not really IME - I have a nice traditional B&B (old lady as landlord in her home - 25 pounds per person) and the commute time to Charing Cross is about 30 minutes - I think first-time tourists want to stay in central London and I agree with that - but for others who, like me, enjoy staying in a more real and ordinary part of London then a short, to me at least, commute is priceless.
