London Area to stay in December
 

Still trying to plan our December 2024 vacation, probably our usual Paris, but looking at different cities also.

We’ve stayed twice at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge but both of those times it was in summer when walking along the river was ideal.

If we decide on London for a week in December which area would be best for walking to sites, shopping, dining, and entertainment?
Prefer a 2 bdr, 2 bath apartment but a hotel with suites like the Park Plaza would work.

Any ideas? We’ve also discussed Vienna, Florence etc. but always seem to come back to Paris because it’s so easy and familiar.

Typically in December I like to stay in areas like Covent Garden, The Strand/Aldwych, St James's/Piccadilly, or maybe Sloane Square because they are pretty festive. But so is the Southbank.

Covent Garden would be an excellent area for a December stay in London. It's centrally located and provides easy access to major sites like the British Museum, the West End theatres, and Trafalgar Square. For accommodations, consider The Savoy for its luxurious suites or Cheval Three Quays for spacious 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartments.

Huh -- that does sound a bit ChatGPT-ish?? Have you actually stayed at the Savoy? In December its rates will be close to 4X what the OP's old favorite Park Plaza charges, Just an entire different league/universe. And Cheval Three Quays is way out east next to the Tower of London

Stay in the same areas as Janisj except I never stay south of the Thames. Would love to stay at the Savoy but I would need two rooms for my daughters which would be too pricey for me. Do enjoy the American bar despite the pricey but good cocktails.

I also just looked at Vienna for a short Christmas market stop and it’s expensive in early December for hotels.

We rented a Mews house in London for us and our family one year. It was a wonderful experience.
