London and where?

I am taking my first trip to London and have a place to stay for 7-10 days. If I wanted to stay in the UK for 4-5 more days, where should I go? Thanks.

What are your interests? The possibilities are too numerous. What sort of things do you want to see or do?

I love scenic little towns and villages, the locals, beautiful green landscapes, history. I love everything about traveling to a new destination. I would like to visit one or two more places that are within an easy train ride back to London that are charming, but also have places of interest to visit. I don't mind doing some research, I just don't know what my top choices to check out should be. My son has recommended York since he has been and really liked it. I hope you can help get me started. Thanks.

Bath
Brighton
The Cotswalds
Oxford
These are places that are not too far from London, that are rich in history, charming or wonderful architecture , fullfill all those needs for lovely village scenes, or town areas that are unique in some way.
You could even see to in 4-5 days.

Thank you for the help. I will start researching as soon as I get back from my June trip. Any other suggestions?

You could very easily get to know London more intimately in that time, one could spend months in London, and still not be bored with it!

Can't say I'm an expert in this area, but what about the usual suspects like the Lake District, day trips to Bath, Oxbridge, etc. I've also heard that the Cornish Coast is nice but I've not been.

Try looking at, and these are both towns areas and counties. In no particular order Devon, Winchester, Somerset, Gloucester, Bristol, Suffolk, Hampshire and the New Forest, Kent and East Sussex. All nice and all within easy reach of London.

Salisbury for its cathedral, Portsmouth for its dockyard where you can see HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose and the Royal Naval Museum.

Didcot for its rail museum, Henley-on-Thames for its riverside beauty and Lyndhurst for the New Forest (in parts as old as the Magna Carta).

Try a search on any of the above and you'll be spoilt for choice.
