Robespierre...Am I getting this right? You put 300 maps in your front pants pocket?
"Is that maps in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" LOL Kevin -- I think Jay's very first advice was the best. Buy two streetwise maps, I have both, and I've used them on two trips. They're just the best, easy to ready and not too huge. Easy to find at amazon.com too. Happy travels, Jules |
Actually, they're on an SD memory card the size of a postage stamp, inside my iPAQ.
But I <u>am</u> happy to see you, nonetheless. ;)) |
can anyone forward any free link to maps of Rome, FLorence, Naplese and Amsterdam?
Thanks Adam |
Adam,
Have you bought a guidebook yet? They have maps (metro and city maps) inside for the main cities, you won't need additional maps (but they're easy to get anyhow at train stations, tourist booths, your hostel, etc. upon arrival). A guidebook will also tell you all the "hot spots" for nightlife which you were asking about earlier. Check out Let's Go or Lonely Planet. Those are generally the most popular for young people. (I have Let's Go, some of my friends swear by LP). |
For six bucks the plastic laminated Lonely Planet pocket city maps are very good. |
adamreim, if you mean online maps...
Amsterdam: http://www.hot-maps.de/europe/nether...am/homeen.html Paris: http://www.hot-maps.de/europe/france/paris/homeen.html ALSO: see the 'plan du quartier' on www.ratp.fr Rome: http://www.hot-maps.de/europe/italy/rome/homeen.html Florence: http://www.bardotti.com/firmap.jpg (click on it until you see the icon to enlarge it) Naples: -couldn't find a good (detailed) one, just use Mappy.com or 1bis.com If you want to locate a specific street, you can always enter it into www.mappy.com or www.1bis.com |
One of those laminated maps for Paris has a misrepresentation of the relative position of Line 4 vs. RER-B, which annoys me (a bit AR). I don't remember which one, I think the logo area was green. RER-B runs on the eastern side of M:line 4; the map has it reversed. Don't know what else might be misconstrued - to me, that could confuse someone. Also, many of those maps cut off interest parts of Paris, especially for repeat visitors.

The RATP site has several series of <i>Plans de quartier</i> of differing quality. The best ones are the hardest to find at
