You might want to let us know your nightly budget. Personally, I would my own research and narrow it down and then ask for recommendations.

Because of family problems unfortunately I wasn't able to travel.

April/May is peak bulb time in Holland so you should try and book a hotel asap if you are staying in Amsterdam.
I can't help with hotels as i don't need one in either city, but maybe if you gove a budget others can help - also search here on the forum - there is loads of advice about both cities already available. If you have more specific questions fire away.
