Am planning a trip to London in mid-March to visit some friends - only planning to stay a few days & then we're off to check out another spot.

We like pubs, trying new foods & doing a little sightseeing. Would like to stay w/i 1.5 hour flight of London.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Lake District. Sit by a fire drink a brew, eat some barley soup . . . great scenery.

"Would like to stay w/i 1.5 hour flight of London" ?? Every place within the UK is within 90 mins flying time from London. Are you talking about going to the Continent? Brussels? Amsterdam? Paris? Luxembourg?

Thanks for the quick reply. The group I'm travelling with is all over the board. Originally wanted to go to Dortmund, Germany for the USA vs Germany soccer match, but decided that is too difficult to get to.

Other considerations have been Dublin, Paris and Amsterdam but would be open to other suggestions. Realize you can pretty much get anywhere in 90 mins flight...wanted to see what responses I'd get.

IMHO it's the prettiest part of England, in the district of Cumbria north and west of London. Here are a few links to give you an idea of what the place looks like:

You can't easily fly there, you'd want to rent a car or take a train to Kendal or Windemere or Keswick.

Outside the UK, just for something different and for sightseeing and trying new foods, I'd go to Brussels. It's a little on the expensive side but what in Europe isn't? The Grand Place is beautiful and the small warren of streets and restaurants in the area are a lot of fun to explore. The train from the airport to Central Station - which is right across the street from Le Meridien Burxelles, a nice place to stay - costs less than $10 US per person.
