London

Excuse my lack of knowledge but is the Jewel Tower part of the Tower of London?
Thanks
Melissa

Melissa -- tut, tut. After all your posts -- such a generic title?? :)

Anyway - no, the Jewel Tower is not in or near the Tower of London. It is across the street from Parliament and next to Westminster Abbey.

Has nothing to do w/ the Crown Jewels if that is what you are asking.

janisj Jul 7th, 2006 09:15 AM

don't know what alanRow's link has to do w/ the Jewel Tower (it is a link to the Tower of London/crown jewels - sort of)

Here is what you need http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/s...onProperty.104

Was wondering if OP meant the Crown Jewels

janisj Jul 7th, 2006 09:32 AM

Could be - but Melissa has started probably 70 or more threads about their upcoming trip to London/Paris so I just assumed she already knows where the crown jewels are.

The Jewel Tower is a specific bldg. The place holding the crown jewels isn't called the jewel tower -- and isn't a tower.

"The Jewel Tower is a specific bldg. The place holding the crown jewels isn't called the jewel tower -- and isn't a tower."

...but the place holding the crown jewels is at the Tower...

clarifying (?):
...but the place holding the crown jewels is at the Tower of London...

Except that the OP posted her "Tower question" way back in the middle of May and got all the info about touring the Tower, the Crown Jewels and so on back then.

my guess this is more like her "London - Pencil museum" thread.

oops - melissa posted while I was answering noe.

Anyway - Melissa, if you are interested in the Jewel Tower and it's history, it is smack dab between Parliament/Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Doesn't take long and is never crowded.

Janis, I have no idea how Melissa is keeping track of the posts/replies. I've often wished Fodor's had a function where you click on your screen name and can see which threads you originate (differentiated from the ones where you reply). Would be a huge help. I've only originated about a half dozen, but I can't even find them when I need them, short of emailing them to myself.

And, Melissa, to answer your next question, you could fit the Jewel Tower either before or after the Ben Franklin House (referencing you the other post you started, also titled "London").
