What's better to fly into, Gatwick or Heathrow?
|
Michael,
I suppose it's a mixed bag, but I prefer Gatwick even though it's further from London than Heathrow. Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world, Gatwick considerably less so, thus my reasoning. The Gatwick Express goes to Victoria Station which is somewhat more convenient that Heathrow's new express to Paddington Station.

Hi Michael - Have flown into Gatwick twice, then taken the Gatwick Express directly into Victoria Station. The Gatwick Express runs frequently, so there isn't a lengthy wait for the next train is you just miss one. Believe the trip into London is less than 1 hr. We never experienced difficulties on either trip, and there was space for lots of luggage.

Have fun in London.
I have done both. Gatwick is convenient if your hotel is near Victoria Sta, Heathrow is convenient if your hotel is quite near Paddington or a tube stop on the Picadilly line. If so, you needn't change from one Underground line to another, which would necessitate dragging your luggage up and down lots of stairs.
You didn't ask this but if you're going to have to make changes from one train line to another, of if your hotel is more than a couple of blocks from Paddington or Victoria, I recommend a taxi.
