London #2 and Paris #4 Most Visited Cities Abroad for Yanks.

On NBC this morning they gave a list of the foreign cities most visited by Americans - London was #2 and Paris was #4 - Toronto was #5 and Cancun, Mexico I believe was #1. Cannot recall which city was #3 - maybe Nassau?

Anyway London is tops in Europe for Americans to visit, followed closely by Paris. I would assume Rome would be in the Top Ten.

#3 was San Juan, Puerto Rico - PART OF THE USA!!!

Only 4 of the top 10 were in Europe: Barcelona(#8), Rome (#6), Paris (#4), and London (#2) - but that's counting American travelers in general.

For American Fodorites, Paris is easily #1 (based on the number of postings) - beating Cancun, London, and San Juan by a landslide(s).

Which shows how massively unrepresentative the Americans on this forum are of their fellow-citizens.

Or to be precise: how unrepresentative they are of bookings made by Americans through Expedia - which is all the survey quoted tells us.

Barcelona #8 - hard to believe that - not that Barcelona ain't sweet - just thought Munich or Edinburgh or Madrid may attract more or even Amsterdam than Barcelona.

No wonder their are so many successful street criminals in Barcelona - it's the naive Americans coming there for easy pickings perhaps.

I saw the title of the post and right away thought Cancun was #1!
And maybe one of these days I'll be a visitor there and understand why. Or maybe not.

Been to Cancun (on our honeymoon13 years ago). I would have never been if I had discovered Paris first. Not missing much. But for Americans it is close and cheap.

I have indeed been to Cancun twice - two times too many but was dragged there by others - a nice beach for sure but so so boring - miles of seafront wall to wall with spiffy hotels and swimming pools - boring but heey if you want to beach it nothing better and comparatively cheap once there.
