London
Hi,
We are going to be travelling to London for 3 days in July prior to taking a cruise from South Hampton. Were wondering if anyone could suggest a good area to stay. Or even a hotel. We will be 3 couples and are looking to take in the sites for the short time we are there. Thanks |
How much would you want to spend?
Have you been there before? When you close your eyes and think "London!", what do you see? What do you want to do? History? Churches? Art? Architecture? Shopping? Shopping for what? Is that three days on the ground or does it include the day you arrive and the day you leave for Southampton? Are you pretty vigorous? Can you get yourselves out the door in the morning or do you dawdle? |
Would want to spend up to $250 a night.
We are interested in seeing the historical sights. Maybe trying some nice restauraunts. Wew would have the 4th, 5th, 6th and part of the 7th to tour around. |
We stayed near Leicester Square. Awesome central location, you can pretty much walk anywhere. Lot's of sights and tons of restaurants/nightlife.

i always recommend the Millennium Bailey's (which is now called the Bailey's) .
it's an old classic style. it has good breakfasts. it is across the street from a main line tube station (gloucester)so when you're exhausted, you don't have far to walk 'home'. also a straight shot taking the regular tube line from heathrow. |
Assume the $250 is per night per couple in 3 different rooms - for a total of $750 per night for all 6 people.
IMHO London is a very spread out city to it's esp important to stay in a central location - so you can walk a few places and have easy tube access to others. You might consider looking in Bloomsbury. We usually do Covent Garden Mayfair or Knightsbridge but don;t think your budget will cover it - although the crash of the pound will help. |
Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated

We stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Westminister..so easy to walk to Big Ben at Parliament ..Westminster cathedral, Churchill war rooms Buckingham Palace..etc etc..close to bus stops and river cruises to Tower Bridge..
