London, 1 week any ideas
 

My DW and I will be in London for 1 week end of this month. Any ideas on what to see and do? We are staying at the Marriott County Hall. Thanks

Have you read any guide books, like the one at this sight? What may interest some people may have no interest for you. I may like museums, you may not. You may like shopping, I may not. Guided tours, Changing of the guard,etc..

Give us an idea of your interests, what you are thinking of seeing,etc.

Why did you pick London, for example?

Sherm, with all due respect you might want to give us a jump start here. How much do you know about London and what are your interests?
I mean it seems silly for us to be telling you about things like seeing Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye -- assuming you already know about those, or do you? But what kind of interests do you have and do you want to head outside the city as well? What is it that made you pick London -- surely that could give us a clue.

Have you looked at any lists or guidebooks to get a start? Each of us could write pages on what to do, but frankly I don't know where to start.

LOL. Michel Paris -- took me longer to post, but we sure covered the same things, didn't we.

Have read guide books, 3 to be exact. Looking for input as to others favorite places in London. Intend to see British museum, Covent Garden, War Museum, The Tower, National Gallery and such. Also planning a day trips to Windsor Castle and Greenwich.

We am looking for any additional info. We like to see the historical areas of a city, shopping, eating etc. This is first trip to London for either of us.

The places you list will occupy a lot of your time - in fact most of it. I might also suggest Hampton Court, a very cool place to see. I assume you mean a week of seven days? Since most flights arrive early morning the first day, after getting to you hotel, is good to spend on the go to defeat jet lag. Is the seventh day the one you depart? If so, that day is a goner -no time except to get to the airport and checkin.

You should be pretty busy doing what you have listed.

I really like the Courtauld, and there are some great exhibitions I'd love to see at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. I second the notion to visit Hampton Court. I liked that very much.

I'm a believer in mixing in "personal" touring and "professional" touring...

I'll add Westminster Abbey, St James Park, St Martin in the Fields church for a concert/lunch in the crypt. I'd skip Tussaud's, Changing of the Guard at Buck (unless you are passionate about it).

I especially like the British Library Special Documents Room with originals of Magna Carta, Lindisfarne Gospels, various Bibles, Shakespeare, Dickens, even Beatles lyrics.

Go to the original TKTS booth at Leicester Square for reduced-price theater tickets. Wicked is wonderful.

I'll second the walks, there is something there for every interest, and the guides are so informative. If you like theater, it's a must. Wonderful productions in intimate settings. I just got back and saw four plays in seven days and wished I could've seen more!
