Loire, Fountainbleu, & Provence - Nice B&B's?

Thinking now of going to France for 2 weeks in late Sept - early Oct. Was thinking of Italy, but for a variety of reasons will probably end up going back to France.

Have been there several times, so know how to get around the country, and really love it. Will pick up a car at the Paris airport and head out of town...

Had a very nice reasonably priced, attractive place in the Loire Valley that we stayed at last time. It was located about 20 minutes south of Amboise and a bit north of Loches. Unfortunately, just got an email from the owner that they're closed this year.

So need to find another nice, reasonably priced, attractive B&B to stay in.

On one trip, stayed just outside the Fountainbleu area. Place was very cheap, and a bit shabby. So would like to know of a nicer place in this region. We did go one afternoon through Barbizon. It was very charming little town.

Could use a recommendation for a place in this area.

Also, will go down to Provence again. Might be able to stay at the place we stayed at there last time. Although, haven't gotten a response back from the owner there yet.

So wouldn't hurt to have some B&B recommendations for Provence too.

Have stayed once in the Luberon area, near Bonnieux and LaCoste. Was great but a bit expensive.

Last time stayed at a very nice place south of Avignon and east of St. Remy in a small town.

Any suggestions for either the Loire, Fountainbleu or Provence areas would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Mark

We were happy using Gites de France which rates the B&B's on its list from one ear of corn to four. E-mail reservations worked with many of them.

Thanks Michael for your reply.

We are familiar with the Gites de France, etc..

However, hoping to from some people with some specific names of places stayed at and really liked.

Anyone got some recommendations??

Thanks,

Mark

Loire: We stayed at a nice B&B last month in Langon, just southeast of Romorantin-Lanthenay. This may be a bit far afield, but it was a good place, nice proprietors. Husband French, wife English. Here is a link
http://212.234.53.212/GDF/analyse_pa...p;ORI=FED&
If the link doesn't work, the property is #1207 in departement Loir et Cher. Find it on www.gites-de-france.fr

If you'll be over on the Côte d'Azur, I'd recommend Le Hameau, just down the hill from St-Paul-de-Vence. Very nice small place set in an orchard; great pool.

In the Loire Valley, the Domaine de la Tortinière.

Check out this web site for B&Bs:

And you might check out the

In Provence, I can't say enough good things about Presbytere St. Thomas, the B&B I stayed at for 5 days in St. Etienne de Gres (outside St. Remy). I did a trip report after my May trip, entitled "Two Weeks in Provence: Trip Report", where I go into some detail about it. It is listed along with other B&B's and hotels at the website:www.avignon-et-Provence.com.

Two of the locations that you ask about I have stayed near. I booked through www.stopoverconnections.com and they have an interactive map. I stayed in Cheverny at a B and B called L'Auberge in the Loire Valley and also in a chateau on the Seine in a little town called Chartrettes near Fountainbleu and Barbizon. Both are on the interactive map on this website and were fantastic locations.

Wow! ....

When it rains, it pours!...
No posts for 7 days and then boom...7 great new posts!!

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Meanwhile, one more request for advice please..

Last trip to France, spent a lovely afternoon in Montpellier. But then drove back in the evening to the place we stayed at in Provence.

Thought it might be nice this time to stay overnight in the Montpellier area.

Any recommendations on a nice reasonable B&B in the area? Doesn't have to be right in Montpellier, but at lease nearby.

Thanks!

Mark

We stayed in a great B&B in Provence- Le Clos St. Antoine. It is just outside a tiny village near Isle sur La Sorgue(2-3 km). It is about 45 min. east of Avignon, and is fairly central to areas in Provence. We also Stayed at a B&B -Cueille la Nuit in Tourettes-sur la loup. Very nice place. Approx 20-30 min from Nice, about 5 km west of Vence. Tourettes is a small town with lots of art and great restaurants. Would highly recommend both places.

Thanks leuk for the tip about Le Clos.

However, in searching for it, I found a webpage that implies they're not operating now. Were you there recently? Do you have a current email address?

Meanwhile, one moe request....

Looks we'll drive from the Loire slightly SE over through Bourges, then Nevers, then Beaune.

Have a place to stay just west of Nevers, but need a nice reasonable B&B in or near Beaune.

Any suggestions?

About 15 minutes from Beaune is the hamlet of Bouilland, where we've stayed a number of times at the Hostellerie du Vieux Moulin. Ask for a room in the original "batiment."

The adjacent restaurant has one Michelin rosette.

Not too long ago there was a thread about B&B accommodations in Burgundy, but I haven't been able to retrieve it. Perhaps someone else can?
