Loire, Dordogne accommodation booking?

Jump to last reply

We are driving through those regions, staying 4 nights in each, and then on to Haute Marne in early October. Will we need to book our accommodation before we leave Australia? We like modest B&B or small inn-style places, nothing fancy. Can we just front up at nice-looking spots or will it all be booked out?
Also, we'd like to rent a car in Orleans (cannot even consider driving south out of Paris) and drop it off in either Nancy or Strasbourg. Sine I have never rented a car in Europe, I have no idea if that is possible or costly.
Also, we need to get from Strasbourg or Nancy to Amsterdam in one full day. Is there a train that goes there without having to go thru Paris? Or should we fly? Can we?
