Loire(Amboise)-Mt.St.Michel-Bayeux--too much for one day?

Hi - we'll be driving from Amboise to Mont St.Michel (estimate around 4 hrs)- visiting the Mont (estimating around 6 hours); and, then, we want to head toward Bayeux.

Is driving all the way to Bayeux too much for one day?

Is there a place you would recommend we stay which is on the way to Bayeux from MSM?

I would love advice on the itinerary, accommodations,(chateau would be nice) and food.

thanks
Hope

that would make for an extremely long day; it would be best to break it up into two segments and stay somewhere near mont st-michel for the night.

Why not stay on Mont St Michel and see it at its best without daytrippers?

Oh goodness - don't attempt that! Even though you won't need 6 hours at le MSM, that would make for a really long day. On those roads, particularly if you're going in high season, you'll be lucky to get there in 4 hours.

I would stay ON le MSM or somewhere nearby like Dol de Bretagne.

We're planning to do MSM from Bayeux as a day trip; you'd advise against this, too?

I thought I'd looked it up on viamichelin or mappy and it wasn't all that far away?

Planned to leave Bayeux in morning and leave MSM after dinner for return?

Merci for opinions.

I don't think Bayeux to le MSM is too bad for a daytrip; it's only 100 km. It's just that the roads are slow and, in high season, busy. We spent a full day on our last trip to the area meandering from Bayeux to le MSM through Fougères and Vire - both beautiful towns.

Thanks for that tip, St. Cirq; we're hoping to meander around looking for towns just like that!

Thank you all for your help. I'll start looking for accommodations outside MSM on the way to Bayeux....any suggestions? This is planned for Friday, March 25.

Hello Hope, I strongly recommend that youlook into actually staying on Mont St Michel for that night. There is something really wonderful about having the Mont to yourself once all the visitors have left and before they arrive again the next morning. Plus all of the lodgings are in old medieval buildings just full of history. And if you have the budget you can dine at La Mere Poulard for an incredible, truly enlightening omelette.
