Logos999 et al - Passy Good Location to get to Oktoberfest?
Trying to facilitate visit to this year's Munich Oktoberfest and after looking into train (cheapest would be buying 2 different Laender tickets for a group of 4 adults) or driving, it looks like its a draw both expense-wise and time-wise since we wouldn't be able to take the fastest trains from Karlsruhe or Mannheim with the special fare.
We have deicded to do the 3 1/2 hr drive by car, which will afford us more flexibilty to see sights along the way to and from the area. To avoid driving/parking into Oktoberfest, I have found a hotel with a family room for 4 for 178 euros/night and private parking that is located at the Neuaubing S-bahn station. Hotel seems to check out on reviews.
Is this an ok neighborhood, and how do we get to Oktoberfest from this station? I know I could find this answer with my own research, but I need to decide on the hotel NOW.
Thank you anyone "in the know" on Pasy and the S-bahn connections.

From Neuabubing by s-bahn to the Hackerbruecke station is 21 minutes accoriding to www.bahn.de so that is alright. From Hackerbruecke you can walk to the Oktoberfest grounds, about 10 mins walking, just follow the crowds.

>Is this an ok neighborhood,
Well, you've got a car, so no problem. If it's right at Bodenseestr. there'll be havy traffic (4 lanes) until 8pm when everything dies down. There's a train every 5min, so be sure your room isn't too close to the tracks. Bodenseestraße is basically a shopping street for people that go shopping with their car. (=me) It's not as big as elsewhere, but there's a "Sams Club" type of C&C store, several smaller supermarkets, electronics, car and others. If you're looking for cheap but nice food before going to Oktoberfest there's also a huge Höffner furniture shop. Nice and super cheap food there!!
It's not a bad area, there's just nothing to do or see there. Since C&C closes at 10pm and is on of the VERY few stores that sell food that late, I'm frequently there after work. But then that's members only ;-)

I assume you will have booked the "Econtel" in Neuaubing already. Smart choice that you don't pay the even more steep rates in downtown Munich.
You can check out the "hood" at maps.google.com
You have a McDonalds right on the hotel's premises -- how cool is that!
And a (probably 24/7) gas station next door, for any night time snacks and drinks.
The area will be somewhat dead at night as logos said. But I would not hesitate to walk around there at 2am. No worries about crime. West Munich is not West LA.

Thanks fellow fodorites! Yes, we snagged a 4 person room for 178 euros and affordable parking at Econtel. Only my husband eats breakfast so he can choose the hotel or McDo's. My guess, the Mcdonald's will be more welcome for the wifi than the food (if its like in France) Sounds like just what we were looking for.
We don't need an exciting neighborhood since it's just a place to drop down and recover from a day/night at Oktoberfest. It's only one night so we can deal with traffic, trains or snoring room mates. It'll be an adventure.
I'll be sure to report back. Again, thanks for the tips!
