logistics-Scotland to Ireland
I'm heading over to the UK and Ireland in a couple of weeks. I'll have 3 weeks. My plan is to spend a few days in London and then head up to Scotland and over to Ireland. The biggest issue I'm running into is the time to get from Scotland to Ireland. I'm getting a Britrail+Ireland Rail pass. Two main questions
1. Will the Britrail+Ireland pass allow me to get from Scotland to Ireland?
2. If so, what is the best way (least time consuming) to get to from Scotland to Ireland via the Britrail pass?
Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

Do you have to go by rail? I would look for a cheap air fare from Glasgow or Edinburgh instead. Don't be pennywise and pound foolish--time is valuable.

The only way to get to Ireland from Scotland is via air or sea. I would suggest that you check with your travel agent regarding the Ferry or Hovercraft. Enjoy your trip.

Go to Ryanair website right now. You will not beleive the incredibly low prices to fly (though they are real). Saves you the time and seasickness of the ferries, too.

RD, I, too am heading for UK, Scotland,
then Ireland..ALSO BOUGHT a BritRail-Ireland pass and this I can tell you:
I have planned (?) to use the pass for the ferry from Glascow to N.IReland then take a bus from N.Ireland to Dublin or Galway if I can arrange it.
My plan is to ferry back from Dublin
to Holy(something) in UK. I have not
been able to secure a confirmation of
these plans from BritRail, or the Sena Line (ferry that takes both cars and
individuals from UK to Ireland) but my
last e-mail from BritRail said that I could make reservations when I get there. We are trying to plan this 14 day
trip on our own. (Whew!) We have friends in Ireland and plan to stay there for about 4 days before returning to London. We are leaving 20Jun.
Hope this helps. I have been wrestling with this dilemma for 2 weeks also.
Maybe we will cross paths. Good luck.
