Nice to be of some help. Curious on whether you will take Hurtigruten or train from Bodo. I think both are nice, just depending on timeframe and budget.

The centre of Geiranger is very touristy and not very special, but the mountain walks and scenery makes up for this. Mountain walks is the most obvious and satisfying activity in both Geiranger and Balestrand. Stryn is a nice place from where you could travel into the valleys of Loen or Olden and visit one of the glacier tongues; Kjenndalsbreen or Briksdalsbreen. Stryn is on your way from Geiranger to Balestrand but not as spectacular. You could also visit Stryn summer ski centre. If having a car when passing the Jolster Lake you should visit the home and old farm of the painter Nicolai Astrup. The grass-roofed houses on the other side of the Jolster Lake are turned into a museum called Astruptunet. A bit hard to find on the small road, but I think it is worth it. From Balestrand you could visit the small Norwegian Booktown Mundal in Fjarland, with lots of second-hand bookshops.
