Lodz?
 

My husband is from here but has not lived there since he was 9. Can anyone suggest things to do in this area?

I don't hear much about but it is the second biggest city in Poland, I am thinking there must be things to do:-D

We are going to be there for about 3 days. On the third day, we are leaving and stopping in Czesto on our way to Zakopane. So I am hoping for some ideas in or around Lodz.

Lodz has some great XIX century architecture, including great examples of industrial architecture. So, here are just a few places not to missed:

Caroline1, presumably you know that Łódż is pronounced "wooj" in Polish, hence the pun.

When I worked there for a short time in the 70s, Łódż was advertised by the Polish tourism people as "Poland's Manchester." :?

It's an interesting city; sadly quite significant in the history of the Holocaust.

Yes. I was actually born in Lodz. So, when I saw "Lodz you like to visit" I thought it was pretty much right on the spot as far as pronunciation (at least as close as it gets:-).)
And yes, Lodz has a proud multi-cultural past, unfortunately erased through the Nazi occupation.
These days Lodz hosts a great festival of 4 cultures annually.
No question it is very sad what the German Nazis did to the whole of Poland and its people, and of course Lodz was not to be omitted.

Btw, Lodz has changes tremendously since you've been there. And I hope they will continue to revitalize they city, finally free from WWII and communism oppression.

I'm not sure if you've ever read the book or seen the movie "Promised Land" directed by Andrzej Wajda . If not, then I highly recommend checking it out (available for rental via Netflix if you are in the U.S.)

Caroline has coverd Lodz sufficiently, but failed to mention its interesting surroundings, like Zelazowa Wola, the birthplace of Frederic Chopin and Lowicz, a small town famous for its colorful ethic culture. But I wonder if tango did not get discouraged having to wait 3 months for anybody to answer.

He, he. I wondered the same. I wish tango1178 posted her question in the Poland forum. I think she would have received more answers and much faster. I think she is actually in Poland this week. I'm sure she was able to find information she needed on her own though.
