Lodgings in Chania?
 

Well, with the help of fellow travelers, my husband and I have decided to spend 6-7 days on Chania. We have narrowed it down to a few places, and wondered if anyone has any recent experiences/input to help us make the final choice. We want to stay somewhere relatively inexpensive, not too tiny, has more of a "feel" of the country (maybe has a view) , has a kitchenette, and is not in a super touristy area. I know that these are pretty much champagne tastes on a beer budget, but I hope that it is possible. After looking at other posts, and Trip Advisor reviews, we have narrowed it down to 4 choices, and two of them are awaiting a reply from us. The four are: Iason Studios (Chania), Lefka Apartment (only have a studio left), Anna's Apts. in Mirthlios-Plakias, and Artemis Apartment (not sure, but I believe on the N coast of Crete.) Thanks so much for all your advice!!

We stayed at Frida's Apartments last year. We loved it... nice size apartments, 2 pools, nice breakfast. About 15 minute walk to town. search Fridahotel.gr
Don't confuse it with a hotel in Heraklion with the same name.
The owners are a lovely family. We would highly recommend it.

The only choice you have suggested that is actually in Chania is Iason studios. It as just around the corner from where we stay at Pension Nora. It is in a quiet area just a two minute walk to the Venetian harbour and all of its activities but it should be quiet at night.
Chania is wonderful as you step back into time in a walled city.
I would not choose any of your alternative location over Iason they are simply in the wrong place.
lefka is 2,5 km outside of Chania too far to walk.
Annas is near Plakia. It is at least a two hour drive from Chania. If you want a great Beach then Plakis is a great choice but there is no charm there just a great beach.
Artemis appears to be in Heraklion. That is three hours from Chania.
Stick with Chania for at least 3 or 4 nights. After that for a quiet beach day or two then try Plakias.

I agree with all of that except there's more than one Artemis. We've stayed at the one in Stavros and it was very nice. But it wasn't in Chania town

I concur with Stanbr (as always!!) THE area to stay in, in Chania Old Town, is on or just off the no-cars street, Theotokopoulou Street, which has dozens of these small pensions/ studios with small kitchenette niches. Here is another one right around the corner from Iason, the pix on this website show the street... http://www.booking.com/hotel/gr/hera-studios.en.html it runs straight up from the seafront park with lovely trees... and copious parking if you rent a car. Not to suggest u change from iason, just to illustrate the charm of the area.
