Lodging on Le Mont St Michel?

Plannning a trip to le mont and wondering if it is worthwhile to spend the night on the mont? Or, would it be better to find lodging near?

IMO no - lot better value hotels/motels on mainland at causeway juncture - and from here you get the unforgettable and totally mesmerizing visage of the Mont gloriously illuminated from afar.

There is a gaggle of hotels on the mainland.

I had the same dilemma and decided to stay at Hotel de la Digue. It is the last hotel before the causeway. I was happy with the decision because I loved looking at MSM when it was lit up at night and you miss that when staying on MSM. It was close enough to easily walk to MSM and we had dinner there. I loved walking around after the tourists have left for the day - quite a change from daytime!

As appealing as the idea of staying on it does seem, I think I'd much rather be viewing it lit up at night or at dawn the next day rather than gazing out at darkened countryside...just my opinion obviously.

One of the most magical moments of my life was the night on MSM walking the ramparts with my husband and children. The wind was loud and the salt air was heavy-the history was so abundant. It is a wonderful place after the tour buses leave and something not to be missed!
