Lodging near Regent's Park UK
 

I'm planning a trip to London late November. My son is studying at Regent's College. Any recommendations for hotels? Also, planning a trip to Amsterdam, what is the best way to get to Amsterdam from London and what is the travel time?

I'd fly from London to Amsterdam, probably on EasyJet. I've done the trip in the other direction and it's about an hour flight.

I have stayed at the Meliã White House, and it was superb. It's a 3-minute walk north of the Great Portland Street Tube station, exactly here: 51.524839,-0.143831

The <i>cheapest</i> way from London to A'dam is www.dutchflyer.co.uk, a train/ferry route - it takes several hours, but then again, so does flying once you add in getting to the airport and queuing for check-in and security.

If you are sensitive to motion sickness, I would recommend avoiding the ferry. I took it during a trip from London to Amsterdam and back. I felt sick during the entire ferry portion, which I think lasted 3 or 4 hours (felt longer). The smell from the McDonald's in the ferry didn't help either.

You could, theoretically, go by train via Brussels. About 5-7 hours city centre to city centre, but more expensive than the cheapest airfares.

The St. George Hotel on Gloucester Place is very nice and is an easy walk from Regent's Park.

The RP Holiday Inn is a block down Bolsover street from the GPS station. I've never stayed there, so I can't report on the rooms, but the public areas are all very clean and tidy.

And don't worry about motion on the ferry. The <i>Stena</i> giant catamarans are the most stable platforms afloat. They're the width of a football field.

About 10 minutes walk north of Regents College - across the park - there is a pub in St Johns Wood that offers B&amp;B. I have not stayed there but I spoke to an Australian family who were and they loved it.

Most people probably aren't bothered by the motion on the Stena. But I was definitely affected. I'm pretty sensitive to motion though and didn't take any dramamine.

If OP gets on the <i>Stena Discovery</i> from Harwich to Hoek van Holland, s/he won't feel the slightest motion. (The Stena Line doesn't get anywhere near either London or Amsterdam.)

The Sherlock Holmes hotel on Baker Street is convenient to both Regent Park College, and Baker Street tube which houses 4 different tube lines. Very easy to get around from there for site seeing.

I have flown to amsterdam twice. Given the ease of getting to Heathrow from regents park area(the heathrow express goes into paddington) and the ease of getting from Schippol airport to central station in amsterdam, flying makes alot of sense.

I don't remember exactly which stena I had, but it was from Harwich to Hoek van Hollank (we took trains for the rest of the route). It was a huge ferry with a movie theater, casino, food court, etc. Maybe I'm unique, but I got sick.
