Lodging in Stuttgart Area
We are flying into Stuttgart and would like to stay for a night or two on the outskirts of the city in a small pension. We will go from Stuttgart down to Hohenfurch for a few days, and will take the SBahn into Munich for Oktoberfest; however, we are hearing that Stuttgart has a pretty nice festival going on as well that we might need to check out.

I would appreciate any suggestions for neat places to stay in the Stuttgart area, and also for any comments on the Stuttgart Beer Festival.

Thanks for all of your ideas.

Peggy
Stuttgart has the 2nd largest beerfest in Germany (and one most popular with the Germans as I understand it). This year it runs from the 27th of Sept to the 12th of October. I've never stayed at any Pensions here, but you might try placestostay.com.

hi there,
this is right, Stuttgart has a beer festival jsut the same as Munich. And also the town is very nice.

Lodging is (like Munich) bad in these days. Two of the best (in case of price) hotels have closed. One other is to be renovating these days. When You take a look at
www.stuttgart.de
You will find a hotel list, I think this pages is also in english so it will be easy to handle.
My recommand when coming from the airport: The hotel Bahnhof in Leinfelden-Echterdingen. This YOu can reach easily in two minutes from the airport by the S-Bahn (d-train). You just have to cross the street. ANd this train will also bring You to Stuttgart center, to the festival etc.
If YOu cant find this (or annother) in the web drop me a line.
And if YOu dont mind, if You wnat someone to show YOu a little bit of the town dont hasitate to mail. If I or my wife have time we would be glad to take YOu arround.

have fun
Gar

Thank you so much for your helpful suggestions; we may just call you. Our problem is that we are traveling with a couple who are stand-by flyers and they are probably flying over early by a few days to Paris and plan on meeting us in Stuttgart. We have been struggling with the best idea for meeting up on our arrival date. Right now, the plan is that they will take the overnight train from Paris to arrive in Stuttgart on our arrival date (which is either 10/2 or 9/29) We are waitlisted to fly on the 28th of Sept, but have seats on 10/1 from Birmingham. We are renting a car in Stuttgart, and are thinking the best bet is for them to go from the Hofbahn Hof to the Airport and meet us at the rental car desk. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help. Peggy

hi there,
huh, hope this works. For if the train or the plane is late, one of You will have a long time at the airport.
Suggestion 1: Meet at the hotel, so everyone can take a rest or a beer while waiting.
Sug 2: If YOu wanna stay one day (or more) in Stuttgart dont take a car when arriving. You dont need and it is better to go arround with busses and trains (it is easy). And everyone can have a beer at the festival. You also safe money.
If You still wanna meet at the airport, it is easy. The d-train (S-Bahn) goes strait from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) to the airport (they have to follow the green "S"). And the places where the car rentals are, is a very small room, perfect to meet.
Hope this helps
dont hesitat to ask for more
Gar
