Lodging in or near Vienna
Need reasonable lodging around Vienna August/September, 1997, as headquarters for day trips, before and after tour of Eastern Europe. Have visited before, so not as intimidated by transportation system as downtown hotel prices.

Three years ago my family and I stayed at the "Stop and Sleep" hotel on the outskirts of town near the airport. We used an "Entertainment Card" and got the room for half price which ammounted to around $20. The room had a private bath and included breakfast. We were very pleased. The property was new and well kept.

I was last in Vienna in 1991 and I stayed at Hotel Mariahilerstrasse which is ver near the westbahnhof. I had single room with bath(sink with hot & cold water. To find it just come out of the station, cross directly over the street, turn right, go to the corner and look over to your right and you will see the hotel. There is now a subway stop in front of the hotel. It is about a 20 minute walk down Mariahilferstrasse to the Ring. I no longer have the room rates but I can assure you that they are resonable. The rates include a Continental breakfast served in the dining room. |
I stayed at the Hotel Avis-inexpensive, clean, and a short tram to the ring. They are listed in the accomodation information I requested through the national Aust ? ... homepage.

Stop and Sleep is no longer clean and breakfast is not included. We stayed there last summer and were very disappointed.

Stayed at Stop and Sleep May 10,'97. Found it to be clean, continental breakfast was included. Cost for a double was 810 ATS. Not cheap, but well located relative to airport for early morning departure. No phone in room.
