Lodging in Munich

Does anyone know of a really cheap place to stay in Munich? We are going to be spending a couple of nights there in June. We would like it to be near public transportation. Thanks

Last summer I stayed at the Pension Seibel--159 DM per night for 2. Great location--one block from market, two blocks from pedestrian zone. Breakfast was great.

Telephone # 011-49-80-264-043
Fax # 011-49-89-267-803

I also stayed at the Seibel and was very happy with it. The location is close to the Viktualienmarkt and the Marienplatz is a short walk. The breakfast was excellent.
http://www.inmuenchen.de/Hotel/Pension/Seibel/

My niece & I stayed at the Hotel Uhland earlier this year, which was very inexpensive, provided free email for guests, had one of the best breakfasts I've had at B&Bs in Germany, and a friendly, helpful, English speaking staff. Need I say more?

http://www.hotel-uhland.de/enwelcome.html

Hi Melissa,
I am not the original poster but would like to stay in the uhland hotel. may I know how to reach the hotel from the train station? if we have big luggages to carry, is it still possible to take subway rather than taxi? is it safe to return to the hotel at night?

thanks and regards,

mast

Hi, I took the S-train from the airport to the Hauptbanhof (main train station) then transferred to a local train to get to Theresienweisse (sp?). But if I had to do it again, I would take a taxi from the Hauptbanhof....we had luggage, and it wasn't wise to drag it around while we looked for the hotel.

As for safety--I'm not super sure how safe it is REALLY late at night. We walked around till well after dinner, but were back by about 8 or 9. I remember it being safe at that time of night, as with any city. But it's pretty close to things, so if you don't feel comfortable walking, you could easily take a cab.

Anyway, try emailing the hotel....they were really helpful with such details for me. Viel gluck!

Munich is a really safe city, at all hours. A taxi from the airport into town will cost around 150dm. The train from the airport is really easy and a LOT cheaper. If you have to change trains or walk far from the station to your hotel, a taxi is a good idea. Changing trains with a lot of luggage can really be a pain.
