Lodging in Bilbao

Hi All,
My wife and I will be in northern Spain this fall, flying into Bilbao and cycle touring for three weeks. Can anyone recommend a budget (two star?) hotel in Bilbao?

Also, I saw a brief travel note on Ibercheques. It claims that for 49 euro each you can buy hotel coupons. There is a list of many hotels that will accept (usually only) one or sometimes more for a night's stay. Has anyone had experience with this service? We will be touring in the Basque country, Rioja, Cantabria and Asturia.

Thank you.

Jeff

There are a number of listings on www.maribelsguides.com

Thinking about a VERY limite sample visit to one or two of these in about three weeks; might have some feedback to share on other accommodations choices for the areas you mention.

Best wishes,

Rex

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. I will follow up. Now if only the value of the euro would drop.

Hello Again,
I just realized that I forgot to ask for advice on how to get from the Bilbao airport into town. Do hotels have a shuttle service?

Thanks.

Jeff

It's a quick 15 minutes taxi ride into the center of Bilbao now that the new tunnel is open.

Hi Jeff,
there is also a bus service leaving every half an hour from the airport ( .15 and .45 ). It costs 1,15 euros and it stops in the Plaza Eliptica and at the bus terminal. From there, you can get the metro.
The hotel Estadio mentioned by Robert is right by the bus terminal, so it would be handy.
If you are bringing your bikes, donīt worry about getting in the bus. I have seen quite a few surfers getting on board ;)

Sounds like Bilbao is of managable size. Thank you Robert and Cova.
