Firstly Amsterdam is in the Netherlands not Denmark.

Have you searched the forum to see what has been suggested earlier?

Can you give us a budget? Time of year?

One thing I like about Amsterdam is all the houseboat rentals available. We rented one on our last trip to the city and liked it a lot.
Here is a site that has a lot of listings for houseboats: http://www.houseboathotel.nl/

Was in Amsterdam two weeks ago and stayed at the Rho Hotel. Three star rated, a few steps from Dam Square, clean, quiet, friendly staff, good free breakfast including eggs and bacon and a 5 minute walk from cental station. Rooms typically small European. Check out web site, www.rhohotel.com

Try the Owl Hotel. http://www.owl-hotel.nl/gb/

I love this place. It's on a quiet street about 3 minutes to the Leidesplein and 5-7 minutes to the Museumplein.

This is a very affordable hotel for the quality offered.

Trolleys available everywhere. Nice accomodations including breakfast.

Check out TripAdvisor's reviews.
