Lodging and eating in or near Blarney
We will be traveling from Dublin through Kilkenny and Cashel and plan to spend the night in or near Blarney. Any ideas for nice lodging and restaurants?

Galvez, I stayed for 3 nights eight years ago in what is called Blarney Woolen Mills Hotel. At that time it was called Christy's. We were very comfortable and had views of a lighted Blarney Castle at night. The food was good. If I were you, I would check Trip Advisor. I did and noticed Blarney Castle Hotel had the highest ratings. I know it has been remodeled and is right on the village green. The village has a number of good places to eat, It has been so long I've forgotten. I was surpriced at how much I enjoyed my stay. I had tried to book a hotel in Cork City but there was something going on. Jazz I think. The grounds of the Castle are really great. I was there the end of Oct., so not many tourist. Have a great trip. Joan

Personally I think its a tourist trap. I took my mother there about 6 years ago on the way back from Dingle and we did stay in a beautiful B&B that unfortunately I cannot rember the name of but....the most disgusting meal I had in Ireland was in a restaurant in the village. I was taking my mother on this trip and paid for the dinners while she was visiting me. It was dreadful. The hotel looked good if it is at the entrace to the of the Blarney stone/Castle. I am sure the food would be fine there. It just annoyed me at the cost and how awful our meal was. Get some reccommendations for restaurants from others on the board.

Thanks for your advice. A friend of a friend just recommended Maranantha...I believe it is a B&B. Anyone know anything about it?

In 2001 we stayed at Longueville House near Mallow. Despite our leisurely breakfast and a morning walk through the gardens, we were still at Blarney Castle before the tour buses, etc, arrived. It was also one of the best breakfasts of our trip.
