Hi there,

We'l be staying in zurich for a night the day we land..and next day morning will travelling from zurich to montreux after visiting rhinefalls and schauffasen in the morning..before going to montreux.
my question is... once we check out from the hotel at zurich and move towards rhinefalls...is there an option of keeping the luggage at the station till we come bck from rhinefalls and head towards montreux. Does zurich station have such facility? If it does how much does it cost??

2.do we have to buy swiss pass online? Or do we buy it from zurich airport once we reach switzerland?. Is buying online much cheaper? Is there any difference in price if we buy online or at the airport?
If we hav to buy online how many months prior do we have to buy? If we are travelling in august...when do we have to buy it?

Please help me with this !!

1. Yes, you have lockers at Zürich HB, the central station.
From the historic main hall you go down one level by escalators (follow signs with a suitcase & key icon) and see the lockers everywhere left and right. Smaller lockers with fit a cabin size luggage cost CHF 6 per day. The larger ones could be a bit more expensive. The lockers are coin-operated so bring some change in case the change machines near the lockers do not work.

One option that might work better for you is the Fast Baggage service from the SBB. If you check your luggage by 09.00, you can pick it up in Montreux the next day; you'll just need a small bag for your overnight stuff.

Actually, using Fast Baggage, you can pick up your suitcase after 18.00 the same day you check it -- but since the Montreux luggage office closes at 18.00, you won't be able to pick it up that day and will have to get it the next morning. Alternately, you can send your cases to Lausanne, where the luggage office stays open until 18.30. Then you'll only have to make a 20-minute trip back to Montreux with your bags.

swandav is right -- that would indeed be the most comfortable solution!

All impoortant Swiss railway stations have lockers. If you want to go straight from Schaffhausen to Montreux, you may not have enough time to fetch your luggage at Zurich main station (only 9 min). But you could put it into lockers at Schaffhausen too.

The Swiss Pass can be bought on arrival at ZRH. Check the prices and compare:

Ohh thank you guys... i was thinking of fast baggage ...but wouldnt it be more expensive than the lockers thing?

Fast Baggage costs 22 chf per bag, so, no, it's not cheap. However, once you experience the freedom of moving around without the bags, you'll never want to go back to lugging them. It is a service, and you pay for most services in Switzerland, but in my view, it's usually worth the price.

After experiencing the freedom of moving around without my bags, I can, indeed, say that I would never want to go back to lugging them around if cost weren't an issue -- but I wouldn't necessarily be willing to pay 22 CHF per bag to forward them if I could pay only 6 or 9 CHF to stow them in a locker for up to 24 hours. YMMV.

Yes ur rite i wont be happy either moving around with the bags.. i think i'l just figure out which option to take.. thank you so much for all your help.

No reason to order it online - buy right at any station BUT check prices in U S dollars thru agents in the U S if from there as not only can the exact same pass IME be cheaper - sometimes significantly so but there may be specials not available at ticket windows in Switzerland.

For lots of great info on Swiss trains, passes, etc I always spotlight these IMO fine sites - www.swisstravelsystem.com (for CHF pass prices) for U.S. check www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.seat61.com - on the latter click on his commercial link to RailEurope for pass prices.

US agents can tack on mailing fees but many do not - buying in Switzerlandmay mean a 3% charge for foreign transactions from your credit card if they like many do.

Looking up an 8-consecutive-day Swiss Pass on www.swisstravelsystem.com I see $459 for an adult pass with no mention of a Saver Pass for two-five people traveling together - what am I missing

In the U S you can buy an 8-consecutibve-day Swiss SaverPass at $407 p.p. - what would the price be for a Saver if that pass was bought in Switzerland. I assume they are available and I just can't find them?

I would buy the pass in Switzerland.

so for 2 people it costs $12 more to buy the pass in Switzerland plus any c card fees - often 3% adds another $25 so if they have a c card charging that the savings would be about $30 total for buying the same pass here. Not that much but... one thing about buying here is if your trip gets cancelled for some unforeseen reason you'd have a cancellation fee or re-issue fee so I guess for $30 it may be wise to wait.

But everyone should compare prices on both ends always as sometimes the savings - many times IME of checking - has been more significant and at other times as cheap or cheaper to buy in Switzerland.
